Epsom Course Guide

Accommodating specifically flat racing, Epsom is a left-handed course that is U-shaped and has a downhill gradient which can be tricky for runners. The final part of the course, the five furlongs straight, is the fastest in the world as it is all downhill. Due to its testing nature, a good position throughout the race is crucial to make your break in the race's final stages.

Top Races at Epsom

Two of the biggest races held at Epsom across the season are The Derby and The Oaks. Normally held in a festival in July, The Derby is a race for male and female horses which are three years old, and The Oak is a race where only three-year-old female horses can compete. Normally the runners of these races have competed in the Guineas at Newmarket and will go on to compete in the St Leger as part of the Fillies' Triple Crown'.

As well as The Derby and The Oaks, there is also The Dash and the Coronation Cup that are also standout events.
