Epsom Derby Betting Tips

Epsom Derby Betting Tips

Royal Ascot just around the corner, but before we all head to the royal event, we've got two days of racing in the Epsom Downs as we build up to the start of the Epsom Derby Meeting.

The feature race on the card is scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon. However, punters have over a day's worth of racing to watch before the big guns take to the track. Quite a few group one races are on the schedule, and to help you pick out the best of the bunch Bet UK have picked out three horses for both days, which we think can do the business.

Epsom Derby Festival Day 2 Betting Tips

It's Derby Day at Epsom on Saturday and the second Classic of the weekend will mark Frankie Dettori's final chance to win the great race ahead of his retirement later in the year. The Derby is off at the earlier time of 1.30pm, the second of eight races on a busy afternoon from Epsom, and we've got selections across the card.

12.50 - Diomed Stakes (1m½f)

Highland Avenue didn't run badly at Newmarket in the Gordon Richards Stakes last time and has his claims for Charlie Appleby and William Buick but more than two years have passed since he last won and improving 3YO KOLSAI could earn a change in fortune here after successive runner-up finishes at Newmarket and Goodwood recently – with his allowance a major positive for Roger Varian and David Egan's hope.

Selection: Kolsai

1.30 - Betfred Derby (Group 1, 1m4f)

Auguste Rodin has something to prove after his Guineas no-show and perhaps too much is being made of Passenger's poor luck in the Dante. White Birch could be the one to take from that York race but this is Frankie Dettori's world and he may be ready to write the perfect script in this Derby farewell on ARREST for the Gosdens. He powered clear in the Chester Vase and while Dettori was not completely happy after a racecourse gallop here recently, the fact he had a chance to come around Tattenham Corner is a big positive.

Selection: Arrest

2.10 - Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Fillies' And Mares' Group 3, 1m½f)

Roman Mist was a heavy-ground winner at Goodwood recently but it would be no surprise if Potapova shows up much better today. PROSPEROUS VOYAGE is the one to beat on her 2022 form and she will be much better suited on this faster surface having tired on soft ground at Newmarket in last month's comeback. Ralph Beckett's filly can oblige down in class.

Selection: Prosperous Voyage

2.45 - Aston Martin 3YO 'Dash' Handicap (5f)

The flying five-furlongs of the famous Epsom Dash course. Lots of chances here but ZUFFOLO delivered a personal best at Redcar last month for Michael Dods and this 6lb higher mark could be within the reach of this improving three-year-old.

Selection: Zuffolo

3.20 - Aston Martin 'Dash' Handicap (Heritage Handicap, 5f)

After the warm-up act from the three-year-olds, more frantic action here as 20 runners scorch their way across the Downs. LIVE IN THE MOMENT led this contest for a long way in 2022 and contested some hot races afterwards. He's joined Alice Haynes for this season and won at Doncaster last time over 6f, despite which he's still rated 3lb lower than he was 12 months ago in this fierce sprint.

Selection: Live In The Moment

3.55 - Betfred Lester Piggott Handicap (1m2f)

Eight of this 14-runner field finished either first or second last time and it's another tough puzzle as such. Perfect Play and Fox Journey were recent winners for Charlie Johnston and Sir Michael Stoute respectively but MAASAI MARA did well to score at Ascot having run around plenty in front after getting to the lead a fair way from home. Oisin Murphy takes over now and this Roaring Lion gelding could have plenty more to come from 4lb higher as he's clearly still learning his trade.

Selection: Maasai Mara

4.30 - Rio Ferdinand Foundation Northern Dancer Handicap (1m4f)

C&D winner Scampi returns here after a win at York last month and will be on plenty shortlists but he's on a career-high mark now and SEA KING might be a better option. He won over this distance at Doncaster early last season and perhaps didn't progress as hoped. He was second at Kempton last month off a layoff and may do better back on grass in first-time cheekpieces.

Selection: Sea King

5.05 - JRA Tokyo Trophy Handicap (6f)

Haymaker and Spring Bloom were winners in May at Windsor and Newmarket and have their merits now but STRIKE RED ran encouragingly in a deep race at Newmarket early last month on his first start of 2023 and Richard Fahey's son of Dark Angel is entitled to build on that now and be very competitive from 1lb lower.

Selection: Strike Red
