Royal Ascot Day Five: Chesham Stakes Trends

The first race of day five of the Royal Ascot festival is the Chesham Stakes. Won by Holloway Boy last year for Daniel Tudhope and Karl Burke but the combination of Ryan Moore and Aidan O'Brien have performed fantastically in recent years with victories in 2011, 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2021. Aidan O'Brien also won the race in 1999 with Bach; however, Michael Kinane was the jockey on that occasion. There are very few trends for the race but these are some things we're tipping ahead of the race.

  • Analyse the form of Ryan Moore and Aidan O'Brien's horse, if it looks like a strong runner, we think the horse will be one to back this year.
  • Most winners in this race come with low odds, 18 out of the last 20 winners have had odds lower than 16/1. This would rule out 44% of horses that have run in the last 20 years.
  • Out of the last 23 favourites (joint favourites included), only seven have come out victorious, meaning that more often than it, it pays to avoid the favourite. However, bare in mind that the favourite has won this race in four of the last seven renditions of the event.

Royal Ascot Day Five: Jersey Stakes Trends

Following the Chesham Stakes, we have the Group 3 Jersey Stakes, which tends to have a substantial field in comparison to the other races on day five. So, when looking at Royal Ascot Day 5 tips, bare that in mind. There isn't a particular jockey or trainer who performs well at this race, in-fact it is one of the most well-rounded races of the festival in that regard. There are a few trends that we have found for this race, so be sure to fact-check your horses stats next to our trends to find the best choice of horse to back.

  • Out of the last 20 winners, all 20 have been in the first 10 of the market and all of them have had odds no bigger than 25/1. Instantly, this removes approximately, 40% of horses entered into the race during this period.

  • 19 of the last 20 winners had an overall rating of 100 or higher

  • 19 out of the last 20 winners had also placed in a class 1 race in the past.

  • Only five out of the last 22 favourites have won the races. However, 14 have placed.

Royal Ascot Day Five: Hardwicke Stakes Trends

The third race of the day is the Hardwicke Stakes which is a prestigious Group 2 flat horse race held at Ascot racecourse every year as part of the Royal Ascot festival. The race is named after the 5th Earl of Hardwicke who was a former chairman of the Jockey Club.

  • Sir Michael Stoute has won with eight horses out of the third that have run in this race. 5 out of the remaining 23 horses have finished in second or third position.
  • Aidan O'Brien has won with four horses out of the 15 that have run in this race, an additional 3 out of the remaining 11 horses have finished in second or third position.
  • Ryan Moore has ridden six winners in this race out of his 15 rides. Only one other horse has finished in the top three. If you're backing a Moore ride, it might be worth going for a straight-up bet rather than an each way bet.
  • All of the last twenty winners have had odds in this race of less than 14/1 and sat within the top six positions of the market.
  • 19/20 winners participated in a group race during their last race.

Royal Ascot Day Five: Platinum Jubilee Stakes Trends

The fourth race of the day is the Platinum Jubilee Stakes (also known as the Diamond Jubilee Stakes), which is part of the British Champion Series. The race was established back in 1868 and has seen some historic races over the years, including last year, where Naval Crown defied the odds to win the race at odds of 33/1. The race is set to be renamed as The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes.

James Fanshawe, Aiden O'Brien and Charlie Appleby are the only active jockeys that have won this race more than once. Appleby has the best record in this race with two wins and a place from five runs. Wesley Ward also has a win and three placements from six runners. As for trainers, Ryan Moore has won this event three times, placing a further five times. However, that is in 17 attempts. Pat Cosgrave, Kevin Stott and Luke Nolen have placed with every horse they've sent to the race, but they have all sent a maximum of two horses.

  • All of the last twenty winners have had odds of 33/1 or lower.
  • 18 out of the last 20 winners made their debut in Australia and England.

Royal Ascot Day Five: Wokingham Stakes Trends

The fifth race of the day is the Wokingham Stakes, which is a Class 2 Heritage Handicap set-up for three-year-olds and older and is run over six furlongs. This race has a large number of runners every year and as a sprint race, represents a golden opportunity to a short distance winner.

  • David Evans has an astonishing record in this race, in his three races as a jockey, he's landed two winners. In comparison, Kevin Ryan, David O'Meara and Richard Fahey have all had over 20 runners with two or fewer winners.

  • The only jockey to have more than one win in this race is Ryan Moore, who has won two out of 19 races, finishing in the top three on four other occasions.

  • The favourite has won five out of the last twenty races, so this isn't a race to back the favourite in this week's racing at the royal meeting.

  • All of the last twenty winners have had odds of 33/1 or lower.

  • 19 out of the last 21 winners have not had 3, 5 or 6 starts across the season.

Royal Ascot Day Five: Queen Alexandra Stakes Trends

Since 1864, the Queen Alexandra Stakes has entertained horse racing bettors as Britain's longest flat race. This class two affair is run over two miles, five furlongs and 143 yards for runners aged four-years-old or older.

Willie Mullins, Andrew Balding, Mark Johnston and Gordon Elliot are the trainers who have won this race more than once with Elliott, placing in all three of their entries.

  • Ryan Moore has placed in 50% of their rides in this event, placing in the top positions 8/16 times, winning four times.
  • Only four of the last 20 favourites have won this race.
  • Only one of the last 20 winners has been bigger than 12/1 in the market.
  • Only one winner out of the last 20 has come from outside the first six in the market.
