Newmarket July Festival Tips

The Newmarket July Festival takes place this week from Thursday until Saturday, and there are three excellent days of action on the July Course at HQ. Here’s a look at some of the feature races at the meeting.

Newmarket Thursday Tips

2.25pm – Kingdom Of Bahrain July Stakes (Group 2 - 6f)

There are several unexposed colts in this Group Two contest that could go on to be very smart. Carlisle winner MALC has the benefit of already having two appearances. He finished a close second at this level in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot last month. If he steps up on that appearance, he is likely to take the leading honours this time.

Selection: Malc

3.35pm – Princess Of Wales’s Stakes (Group 2 - 1m4f)

Just four runners are set to feature in the Group Two Princess Of Wales’s Stakes, including former Derby winner ADAYAR. He made a winning seasonal reappearance at this course in the Gordon Richards Stakes in April, and he should have the beating of his three rivals today based on what he has produced this season.

Selection: Adayar

Friday Newmarket Tips

2.25pm – Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2 - 6f)

After just falling short of success on her debut at Doncaster (6½f), STAR OF MYSTERY has gone on to record back-to-back victories at Haydock (6f) and over this C&D, with the latter being a Listed triumph. Both of those wins have been by a large margin, which indicates she deserves her place in this Group Two field. The daughter of Kodiac sets the standard in this contest, and she can confirm to her connections that she is one of the most exciting two-year-old fillies in training.

Selection: Star Of Mystery

3.35pm – Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes (Group 1 - 1m)

VIA SISTINA prevailed at the highest level earlier this month when she won the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh. Very few British-trained horses have had success in that race in Ireland. It marked her third straight victory on the track. George Boughey’s mare has an official rating of 116, the highest in this field. It’s hard to look past her doubling her Group One tally as she is in red-hot form.

Selection: Via Sistina

Saturday Newmarket Tips

3.25pm – bet365 Superlative Stakes (Group 2 - 7f)

GREAT TRUTH could not have looked any more impressive when he scored on his debut at Leicester last month over this 7f distance. The Dubawi colt was bumped in that race and showed signs of greenness, but once James Doyle pushed the button he found an excellent turn of foot to stretch away for a five-length success. There is probably a lot more to come from Charlie Appleby’s runner as he bids to give his trainer a third win in four years in this race.

Selection: Great Truth

4.35pm – Pertemps Network July Cup (Group 1 - 6f)

Despite getting off to a slow start, SHAQUILLE was too quick for his rivals in the Commonwealth Cup three weeks ago. That victory has established Julie Camacho’s sprinter as one of the best in this division. With the weight allowance on their side, three-year-olds have a great record in this race, and the recent Royal Ascot winner can continue that trend this year.

Selection: Shaquille
