July Festival Betting Tips

The top-class racing just keeps on coming, and this time we're off to the July Course at Newmarket for the Moet & Chandon July Festival. With three days of racing to look forward to, punters will have the chance to see runners take to the track in the Darley July Cup and the Falmouth Stakes.

Held annually in July, the meeting is the perfect opportunity for many Group One runners to hit the course before Goodwood later in the month, or before they head back to Ascot for the world-renowned King George VI Stakes.

As we look at the big races involved each day, we've selected the horses that have the chance to fly past the post first in the Group One races, so you'll always be in the know come race day.

Newmarket Moet & Chandon July Festival Betting Tips Day 3

It's the third and final afternoon of Newmarket's Moet & Chandon Festival on Saturday and the Group 1 July Cup is the centrepiece at Headquarters. Can Perfect Power follow up his Royal Ascot demolition for Richard Fahey in the feature race?

Action at Newmarket on Saturday is from 1.30pm-5.00pm and we have previewed the card.

1.30pm - Rossdales British EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes (7f)

Achillea is the only one with racecourse experience and she'll want to improve markedly on her Newbury debut fourth to take out some talented newcomers. Of those, Running Lion, Luckin Brew and Frankness are to be noted but BLUE MISSILE is a well-bred daughter of Galileo with plenty going for her on debut for William Haggas in the Royal silks.

Selection: Blue Missile

2.05pm - Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa Fillies' Handicap (7f)

Truely Acclaimed and Silken Petals are in form, while Golden Spice could easily rebound from her Royal Ascot defeat but KIDWAH has won both starts in convincing fashion for William Haggas and the Kodiac filly may well make light of an opening handicap mark of 88 as this step up in trip seems certain to suit her.

Selection: Kidwah

2.40pm - bet365 Mile Handicap (1m)

New Kingdom and Bay Of Honour are contenders for Charlie Appleby, with William Buick's presence on the latter noted, while Laasudood is respected for Richard Hannon after last month's Doncaster win but maybe SPINAROUND will be overlooked in the market. His Britannia Stakes defeat at Royal Ascot is best forgiven as he was on the wrong side of the track and he's got the excellent Benoit De La Sayette taking 5lb off now.

Selection: Spinaround

3.15pm - bet365 Superlative Stakes (Group 2, 7f)

Five promising youngsters are set to battle it out for this Group 2 contest, with once-raced winners Isaac Shelby and Victory Dance for Brian Meehan and Charlie Appleby open to improvement. However, LION OF WAR won well on debut at Leicester and looked quite smart when blowing away his Tapeta rivals under a penalty at Newcastle last month, clear by ten lengths despite Cieren Fallon cantering home in the final furlong. He can rubberstamp that impression now.

Selection: Lion Of War

3.50pm - bet365 Bunbury Cup (Heritage Handicap, 7f)

The Bunbury Cup is a typically fierce puzzle with a field of 20 going to post. Montassib (fifth) lost his perfect record in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot but retains potential for better, though he's 5lb worse off with runner-up Ropey Guest now. Il Bandito and Bless Him could be contenders, as could be Samburu but his John & Thady Gosden-trained stablemate AL RUFAA is 2-2 on the July Course here, both at 7f, and might be some each-way value on that basis.

Selection: Al Rufaa

4.25pm - Darley July Cup Stakes (Group 1, 6f)

Market leaders tend to do well in the July Cup and there's not many reasons to oppose PERFECT POWER. Richard Fahey's charge was too good for some of these in the Commonwealth Cup at Ascot last time and looks a very smart sprinter now. With his handy 3YO allowance, he should be too strong for the likes of Creative Force – an unlucky fifth in this last year – and he can give Christophe Soumillon back-to-back Saturday afternoon feature race wins on UK soil.

Selection: Perfect Power

5.00pm - Moet & Chandon Handicap (1m4f)

Adjuvant might go well if he settles early on, while Glen Savage is open to progress on third start/handicap bow for the Gosden team, but last-time-out winners Bizarre Law and COMMONSENSICAL have plenty going for them. The latter could easily be 3-3 for Hugo Palmer this season and is given the nod on his first go at this increased trip.

Selection: Commonsensical

Moet & Chandon Festival Betting Tips Day 2

The second day of Newmarket's July Festival takes place on Friday and there's no doubt the headline acts will be Inspiral and Frankie Dettori when they go for glory in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes at 3.35pm. That's part of a seven-race Newmarket offering on Friday, with action from 1.15pm-4.45pm, and we've got selections for all the July Course action.

1.15pm - Weatherbys British Ebf Maiden Stakes (7f)

Just three of these have racecourse experience and, of those, Mark Johnston's Doncaster runner-up Hope You Can Run sets the standard, though he may well need to improve now to go one better with plenty of exciting newcomers here. Epictetus (John & Thady Gosden) joins the Charlie Appleby pair Flying Honours (William Buick) and Desert Order (James Doyle) on the shortlist, but LEADMAN is a Kingman colt with plenty going for him on paper and Andrew Balding's charge is selected in what could be a warm contest.

Selection: Leadman

1.50pm - bet365 Handicap (Heritage Handicap, 1m2f)

New London won his first two starts in the Godolphin blue before finishing second to Changingoftheguard in the Chester Vase in May. He could have plenty more to offer now starting into handicaps. There's plenty of depth here, however, and Haydock novice winner PHANTOM FLIGHT – getting 4lb from the Appleby runner – is also open to significant progress and offers more value.

Selection: Phantom Flight

2.25pm - Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (Fillies' Group 2, 6f)

LEZOO provided Frankie Dettori with a big-time winner in his hour of need at this venue last month, taking out a Listed contest in strong fashion. Ralph Beckett's filly rises in class again this afternoon and can help kick-start a big afternoon for her veteran rider by taking another step up the ladder.

Selection: Lezoo

3.00pm - bet365 Trophy (Heritage Handicap, 1m6f)

Amid the euphoria that followed Trueshan's historic Northumberland Plate win a fortnight ago, it might have been lost that SPIRIT MIXER ran a blinder in second spot for Andrew Balding and Callum Hutchinson. It was the latest piece of improved form this summer from the Frankel gelding and another major challenge is expected here. He's only 3lb higher and the return to turf/drop in trip are not a cause for concern.

Selection: Spirit Mixer

3.35pm - Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes (Fillies' And Mares' Group 1, 1m)

After her demolition job at Royal Ascot last month – a race in which things certainly didn't go entirely to plan – it's impossible to forecast anything but more success for unbeaten filly INSPIRAL now. She looks hugely exciting for the Gosden team and Cheveley Park Stud and, of course, that man Frankie Dettori, who has retained the ride after a testing couple of weeks personally.

Selection: Inspiral

4.10pm - Arioneo Handicap (7f)

Last month's C&D winner Nizaaka is entitled to have another big crack at this but, with Benoit De La Sayette missing, she's effectively 10lb higher and will need more. LA MAQUINA surged home late to win this contest a year ago on his first turf start of the year. Off the same mark, George Baker's Dutch Art gelding should be primed for a repeat bid.

Selection: La Maquina

4.45pm - Moet & Chandon Handicap (5f)

A tricky sprint contest to round off day two. Hat-trick seeking Ancient Times is a key player for Harry Eustace and Hayley Turner, while Tees Spirit could rebound after being held at the Curragh last time. EXPERT OPINION doesn't possess a great strike-rate but he's very solid and went close on the Rowley course here in May. He's getting weight from the field and could be finishing as well as anything under Ray Dawson.

Selection: Expert Opinion
