Dubai Future Champions Festival Day 1 Tips

Newmarket's two-day Dubai Future Champions Festival begins on Friday afternoon with the Group 1 Fillies' Mile, the centrepiece at Headquarters. It's an eight-race card at Newmarket, under way from 1.50pm-5.55pm, with a host of group-race action alongside the Old Rowley Cup Handicap at 3.35pm. We've got a race-by-race look at the card.

Bet on Racing at Newmarket

1.50pm - Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes (Group 3, 5f)

The benchmark for this opener is set by Inquisitively for Kevin Philippart De Foy off the back of his York Listed win in August. He is, though, going to encounter different conditions underfoot now. Aidan O'Brien's Alabama is a danger alongside the likes of Tears Of A Clown for Henry Candy and Flora Of Bermuda for Andrew Balding, but MIAHARRIS might rebound from her below-par Salisbury with the return to slower ground a positive.

Selection: Miaharris @ 15/2

Back Miaharris @ 15/2

2.25pm - Godolphin Lifetime Care Oh So Sharp Stakes (Fillies' Group 3, 7f)

Chic Colombine is on a winning roll, in pursuit of a five-timer and deserves this rise in class for George Boughey and Kevin Stott but both Dance Sequence for Charlie Appleby and SKELLET for Ralph Beckett could have the untapped potential to thwart her. The latter won well at Salisbury five weeks ago in a race that has worked out nicely and the Kingman filly could be the answer now.

Selection: Skellet @ 2/1

Back Skellet @ 2/1

3.00pm - Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards Challenge Stakes (Group 2, 7f)

Chindit is a horse in fine fettle but ideally wants a mile and that may ensure AUDIENCE is the one to beat here for John & Thady Gosden. A Group 3 winner over 7f here in July, she has twice finished second in this grade over 7f at York and Doncaster behind smart performers Kinross and Sandrine in more recent times and looks ready to tackle a mile now.

Selection: Audience @ 5/2

Back Audience @ 5/2

3.35pm - bet365 Old Rowley Cup Handicap (Heritage Handicap, 1m4f)

Humanity has won back-to-back races at Lingfield and Kempton impressively and could well be ahead of the assessor for now, but ALSAKIB is lightly-raced and excelled at Ascot when stepped up to this distance last month for Andrew Balding in the Lavazza Stakes. The son of Kingman has gone up in the ratings but may not be done progressing yet.

Selection: Alsakib @ 10/3

Back Alsakib @ 10/3

4.10pm - bet365 Fillies' Mile (Fillies' Group 1, 1m)

Caught U Looking is improving all the time and is not one to cross off in haste for Noel Meade but SHUWARI can rebound after suffering a first career defeat in the Rockfel here a fortnight ago. Ollie Sangster's filly was slow from the gates that day and out the back in a race where it paid to be handy. She did well in the circumstances to get up for second ahead of re-opposing Ylang Ylang and, with an extra furlong to suit, can get back on track.

Selection: Shuwari @ 5/2

Back Shuwari @ 5/2

4.45pm - Godolphin Under Starters Orders Maiden Fillies' Stakes Division 1 (7f)

Charlie Appleby and William Buick team up here with debutante DEVOTED QUEEN and she can score. She is a well-bred daughter of Kingman who is a half-sister to One Ruler, a Group 3 winner here at two, and she makes solid appeal on paper for a top team.

Selection: Devoted Queen @ 11/8

Back Devoted Queen @ 11/8

5.20pm - Godolphin Under Starters Orders Maiden Fillies' Stakes Division 2 (7f)

A trio of non-runners have reduced this field to seven. Newcomer Opec for James Fanshawe and Oisin Murphy is one to monitor but GET THE MUSIC ON was second at Lingfield on debut in August over an extended 7f on the turf course, and the form has been franked since by the next pair home. Any improvement now will make Clive Cox's filly the one to beat.

Selection: Get The Music On @ 5/6

Back Get the Music On @ 5/6

5.55pm - Newmarket Pony Academy Pride Stakes (Fillies' & Mares' Group 3, 1m2f)

Unless had some useful form in the book early in the summer, including fourth in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot, and Aidan O'Brien's filly has gone close in this grade before. Silver Lady was too keen over a mile here last month in Listed company and could do better up in trip but NEVER ENDING has improved steadily in handicaps for John & Thady Gosden and is proven on soft ground after her win at Leicester. She has more to find on ratings but is bred to be better still and, in a very open finale, could be an each-way angle into the race.

Selection: Never Ending @ 20/1
