Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle

The Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle is the final race of the 2024 Cheltenham Festival. It is scheduled to take place on day four of the meeting at 5.30pm.

This race was added to the Cheltenham Festival in 2009 and named after the legendary trainer Martin Pipe, one of the most successful British trainers in history. It takes place over 2m4½f on the New Course, with a maximum field of 24.

The final race of the meeting is always competitive and usually favours progressive types. Better Days Ahead has been running well behind some good novice hurdlers, and looks well handicapped here on a mark of 140. He will be ridden by Danny Gilligan, who is one of the best conditional jockeys around, and that boosts his chances.

Willie Mullins holds the record for the most victories as a trainer in this contest as the Irishman has been successful four times, including in 2021 with this year’s leading Cheltenham Gold Cup contender Galopin Des Champs.

There are over 90 horses currently entered into the 2024 Cheltenham Festival's final race! Now that will drop by over 70 horses and we'll have a significantly better idea of who will run in this race on Sunday. However, if this horse races, we can see it having a very successful festival.

That horse is Better Days Ahead, which is entered for three races at the Cheltenham Festival but we believe that this is the race that the horse will run in. Gordon Elliott will hope that the horse lives up to its name after some slightly disappointing performances at Navan in it's last two races. However, the horse is definitely capable of better and we think it'll get back to winning form here.
