Tottenham Hotspur Betting
- Tottenham Hotspur Manager: Antonio Conte
- Tottenham Hotspur Captain: Harry Kane
- Tottenham Hotspur Star Player: Harry Kane
- Tottenham Hotspur Competitions: English Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and UEFA Champions League
Tottenham Hotspur are a team who have had a serious upturn in fortune in the last twenty years but have typically fallen short on the big stage. Their biggest chance of success came in the UEFA Champions League in the 2018/19 final but unfortunately for Spurs fans, they fell short in a 2-0 defeat. They’ve never been the favourites to win tournaments when looking at UK betting odds but they have consistently reached the latter stages of tournaments without winning a trophy. In the modern day, with the likes of Harry Kane, Richarlison and Son-Heung Min as their front three, they can be expected to score a large number of goals, so when looking at Spurs games, we recommend looking at them to score goals.
Tottenham Hotspur 2022/23 Betting
Tottenham Hotspur came into the 2022/23 season with relatively high expectations to end their trophy draught. However, Antonio Conte was very quick to try and lower expectations, despite spending approximately 170 million euros on talent in the Summer, only West Ham, Manchester United and Chelsea have spent more.
Tottenham are a team who are expected to at least make the final of a competition this season, domestic trophies have been dominated by Liverpool and Manchester City in recent years but with the squad Spurs’ have at their disposal, they should have the capabilities to succeed under Conte. In regards to the betting odds, they sat as 5th favourite to win the Premier League title, similarly with the EFL and FA Cups. However, the two domestic trophies, as they’re in the knockout format, Spurs’ have a much better chance of success.
Following this, we look at the UEFA Champions League where the expectations based on the Champions League betting odds, is that Tottenham will make it to either the Round of 16 or Quarter Finals before being eliminated.
Looking to place a bet on a Tottenham Hotspur match? Harry Kane is one of the favourites to land the top goalscorer award in most competitions. However, Erling Haaland is likely to beat him when it comes to the Premier League, so looking at domestic competitions and Europe can provide fantastic value for Kane. In regards to assists, Dejan Kulusevski is a fantastic pick for assist betting; however, the Swede will find minutes harder to come by this season with the purchase of Richarlison. With a midfield three of Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, you can bet on at least one of them receiving a yellow card during a game.
Betting on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League
Since 1992/93, Tottenham Hotspur have played in the Premier League. However, it wasn’t until 2009/10 that Spurs managed to make it into the top four. Since then, they have managed to replicate that feat seven times. Their best finish is second in the league when they finished behind eventual winners Chelsea in 2016/17, since then, they have been firmly locked in a battle for top four spots. This season, out of the top four, Tottenham look like the most likely to drop out of the top four with Chelsea spending big to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City who perform at different levels. The team that looks most likely to replace them are Arsenal, who look quite strong at present or Manchester United who have underperformed in recent seasons.
Our prediction is that Tottenham will finish in the top four this season and close the gap between themselves and the top 2 but they have virtually no chance of winning the league with Erling Haaland joining Manchester City.
Betting on Tottenham Hotspur in UEFA Champions League
When you look at the Tottenham Hotspur squad, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they are outsiders to perform well at the tournament. However, when you look at the teams around them, you can see why they typically fall short as where Tottenham have good or great players, other clubs have world class players. Since finishing as runners-up in the tournament, they have failed to impress, dropping out of European competitions at early stages and have disappointed their fanbase in most years. We suggest due to their unpredictability avoiding bets on Tottenham Hotspur in European competitions.
Betting on Tottenham Hotspur in EFL Cup
Cup competitions are the best chance that Tottenham have of winning a competition. In the EFL Cup, many teams put out weakened sides with the idea that they can focus on the Premier League or Champions League. Unfortunately, in recent years, Tottenham have been one of these teams in recent years but have made it to the latter stages on numerous occasions, is this going to continue and could they end their trophy draught? If they’re going to, we think it’s most likely to happen in this competition.
Betting on Tottenham Hotspur in FA Cup
Similarly to the EFL Cup, if a team takes the tournament seriously, they have a fantastic chance of making it to the latter stages of the competition. Most teams play weakened teams if they’re in either a battle for the top four or battling against relegation which leaves the teams with a lot of depth and the teams around mid-table. Unfortunately, Tottenham are usually fighting to move up the table at this point in the season, so they tend to rest players in the early stages and end up prematurely knocked out. So, we wouldn’t back Spurs until after the fifth round of the competition.
Tottenham Hotspur Recent History
| YEAR | Premier League | Champions League | EFL Cup | FA Cup | |:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:| | 2021/22 | 4th place | Did not qualify | Semi-Final | Fifth Round | | 2020/21 | 7th place | Did not qualify | Runners-Up | Fifth Round | | 2019/20 | 6th place | Round of 16 | Third Round | Fifth Round | | 2018/19 | 4th place | Runners-Up | Semi-Final | Fourth Round | | 2017/18 | 3rd place | Round of 16 | Fourth Round | Semi-Final | | 2016/17 | 2nd place | Group Stage | Fourth Round | Semi-Final |
It’s been a case of so near, yet so far for Tottenham Hotspur in recent years with their latest heartbreak occurring in the 2020/21 EFL Cup final. However, we have no sympathy for them whatsoever, they brought in Jose Mourinho to win them a tournament, he gets them to the final against opposition that they beat earlier in the season and they sack Mourinho the week before the final and lose. They may have lost anyways but we’ll never know. They also lost the Champions League final in 2018/19, losing 2-0 to Liverpool and failed to win the league in 2016/17 behind a strong Chelsea team.
Tottenham Hotspur Top Goalscorer Betting
When looking at the top goalscorer for Tottenham Hotspur, you’re either looking at Son-Heung Min or Harry Kane. With Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison at the club now, Son-Heung Min might find his minutes limited in comparison to previous years, meanwhile, Harry Kane will likely have a similar amount of minutes, we’d back Harry Kane for any top goalscorer award outside of the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur Top Assister Betting
We’re in a similar position with the top goalscorer and the top assister awards, the minutes for the three attacking midfielders/wingers will be limited, while Harry Kane will have more minutes to his name and he tends to assist all three of the alternating players very well. Harry Kane may be a better pick for top assister each season than top goalscorer.
Tottenham Hotspur Yellow Cards Betting
It’s a trifecta for Harry Kane, in recent years, Harry Kane is one of the most regularly carded Spurs’ players in all competitions. To make matters better, for bettors that is, is that Harry Kane typically has better odds to be carded than most Spurs’ players. So, as it stands, Harry Kane would be our top pick for all three major markets. However, Rodrigo Bentancur is also a fantastic shout for yellow cards, especially given his history at Juventus.
