Premier League Matchday 19 Tips
England’s top division returns on Boxing Day to begin Matchday 19, with Aston Villa’s trip to Manchester United the pick of the action.
Meanwhile, Wednesday night sees the first of two London derbies when Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea host Crystal Palace, whilst title-chasing Arsenal are also at home to David Moyes’ West Ham the following day.
Tip 1: Aston Villa to win @ 2/1
Villa’s home form has been extraordinary in the league this season, but they have also been strong on the road, picking up four wins away from Villa Park.
Unai Emery’s men have lost just one of their last five away games and were also victorious at the Theatre of Dreams earlier this decade; a 1-0 win back in 2021,
Manchester United have been abject at home, both domestically and in Europe, with only the bottom three, Everton and Crystal Palace losing more on home soil than United’s four.
Erik ten Hag’s side have lost two of their last five at Old Trafford, including a damning 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, which has only increased the ire and frustration circulating around the club.
Tip 2: Chelsea to win to nil @ 6/4
Chelsea and Palace are unlikely to be the fiercest of London rivals, with eight miles and the River Thames separating them, but last season’s fiery meeting at the Bridge, with eight yellow cards shown, means we could be in for another tasty encounter.
The Blues have a far superior record over the Eagles on home soil, winning each of their last seven encounters in all competitions, the last of five which were to nil.
Luton Town midfielder Andros Townsend was the last player to score for Palace at Stamford Bridge and with top scorer Odsonne Edouard still out injured, it is difficult to see where the goals will come to give Roy Hodgson’s side the win.
Palace were held to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night at home to Brighton, a late Danny Welbeck header salvaging a point for the Seagulls, meaning it is now seven without a win for the South London side.
Tip 3: Arsenal to win and over 3.5 goals @ 33/20](https://www.betuk.com/betting/football/england-premier-league/arsenal#event/1020214599?coupon=combination|3355979824,3355979944|10|replace)
Arsenal’s last defeat at home was to Brighton at the back end of last season, and they have since gone on a run of 13 competitive games without defeat, with victories in each of their last seven.
Mikel Arteta’s side have conceded just eight goals in the league at the Emirates this season, scoring 22, making it one of the most difficult stadiums to visit for any away side.
West Ham have followed a run of three consecutive away wins in all competitions with shocking defensive performances against Fulham and in the League Cup at Liverpool, conceding five in both.
Although David Moyes will be looking for an improvement on Thursday night, the Hammers have not had too much success in the red half of North London in recent years, with their last victory back in 2015.
