Champions League Matchday Three Tips

Champions League Matchday 3 Tips (Home Nations)

There are five British sides in action in the Champions League on Tuesday and Wednesday with the group stage starting to take shape on matchday three.

Arsenal need to bounce back from defeat in Lens in their last European contest and the Gunners head to Seville in search of three points.

Man City are two-from-two in the Champions League this season and the Citizens are short-priced favourites to extend their 100 percent record against Young Boys.

Newcastle welcome Borussia Dortmund to St James’ Park in a high-class contest, while Man United host Copenhagen at Old Trafford.

Celtic suffered a late heartbreak against Lazio before the international break but the Bhoys have a chance to bounce back when they host Atletico Madrid.

Tip 1 - Arsenal to beat Sevilla @ 8/11

Arsenal weren’t at their best when battling to a 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, but the Gunners found a way to collect a point and the Blues are an improving side.

It’s certainly not a bad effort to take four points from two matches against Man City and Chelsea, in Arsenal's latest two Premier League contests, and they look good value to win in Seville.

In truth, this is a step down in class for Mikel Arteta’s men and if they are anything near their best they should be comfortable winners against a Sevilla side that have won only two of their 12 all-competition games this term.

The Gunners were beaten by Lens on matchday two of the Champions League, but the French side scored two fantastic goals in a contest that Arsenal dominated, and that’s unlikely to be repeated in Spain.

Tip 2 - Newcastle v Dortmund over 3.5 goals @ 15/8

Newcastle have been in rampant goalscoring form, hitting the net 21 times in their last six matches and the goals could flow against when Borussia Dortmund travel to St James’ Park.

The Magpies blasted four past Crystal Palace on Saturday and Eddie Howe’s side showed they are a potent attacking force when smashing Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 on matchday two.

Howe’s men have hit 18 goals in their seven home matches this term and they have the quality to hurt Dortmund.

The Germans are a good side and they racked up 13 shots and 10 corners in a dominant 1-0 victory over Bremen last time out.

Prior to that, the Black and Yellows hit four goals against Union Berlin, they scored three at Hoffenheim and Edin Terzic’s men can contribute to a high-scoring St James’ Park contest.

Tip 3 Celtic to beat Atletico Madrid @ 13/5

Celtic were robbed by a late Lazio strike on matchday two, but that was a game that the Bhoys could easily have won, and certainly should not have lost, and Brendan Rodgers’ side can get back on track against Atletico Madrid.

On paper this rates a tough tie, but Atletico aren’t the force of old and Diego Simeone’s men have been second best against Lazio and Feyenoord, despite what the results say.

Parkhead will be a cauldron of an atmosphere on Wednesday evening and they can roar Celtic to victory.
