Andy Ruiz pulled off one of the biggest shocks in recent boxing history when he beat Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden. The Mexican came into the fight as a 25/1 underdog before winning by TKO in the 7th round. Joshua admitted Ruiz got the best of him in the opener, but we doubt he will give him as easy a ride in the rematch.

Anthony Joshua - 20/57 To Win

Ever since Anthony Joshua lost against Andy Ruiz Jr, there has been talk of whether he is past his best, or whether or not he was ever that good to start with? Coming into the rematch, this is the first time that Joshua might be considered an underdog and it will be interesting to see how he goes about his preparation. One thing that will help Joshua is that his opponent is set in stone this time around. For his last camp, everything would have been centered around fighting 6ft 4 Jarrell Miller, before eventually fighting 6ft Andy Ruiz at short notice.

Apparently going back to basics in his training camp, Joshua has scrapped his previous sparring partners and brought in 5 new faces. The name most familiar will be Derrick Chisora, who is said to be impressed with Joshua’s shape. AJ has reportedly trimmed down to lean muscle as he looks to gain an edge over Ruiz. Each of Joshua’s sparring partners replicates a part of Ruiz’s fighting style. American Timothy Moten is almost identical in terms of height and weight, whilst Albon Pervizaj has the quick hands and movement that Ruiz showed in the first fight. Every sign points to AJ being much more prepared, but at the same time, so will Ruiz. It’ll be interesting to see a fight in which both fighters have been fully focused on fighting each other.

Andy Ruiz Jr - 11/5 To Win

No one can deny that Andy Ruiz deserved to win his first fight against Joshua, but this time around will be the real test. As we mentioned earlier, both fighters will have been preparing well in advance, knowing their opponent and knowing how they will fight. Ruiz has already revealed that he is planning to cut almost a stone in preparation for this fight, in order to be even faster than he was the first time around. That will surely see him move around the ring quicker, but will it help in sustaining the heavy punches that Joshua is bound to throw his way?

Ruiz is confident that he knows how Joshua is going to fight in the rematch, suggesting the Brit will try to win on points. Ruiz hasn’t let that affect his preparation however and is adamant he will continue to fight the way that best suits him. That means giving Joshua as little space to breath as possible and barraging him with quick, powerful punches. Ruiz has been open about his preparation and staged an open training session at the end of October. Ruiz hasn’t lost an ounce of strength after he has trimmed down, setting up what should be a fight for the ages.

Bet UK’s Headline Betting Tip

Anthony Joshua To Win By Decision Or Technical Decision @ 7/2

This will be a close fight between two fighters who have solid game plans and have trained in perfect preparation. We can’t see Joshua losing against Ruiz for a second time, and after having months to perfectly prepare fighting him, he should edge this one on a decision.

The Undercard

Alexander Povetkin v Michael Hunter

40 year old Alexander Povetkin faces Michael Hunter in the first fight of a packed undercard. Both fighters have stellar records, and although drug suspensions have blighted Povetkin’s later career, he is still an Olympic gold medallist with only 2 professional losses. Similarly, Hunter has only lost on fight, against former unified Cruiserweight champion Oleksander Usyk. Povetkin showed in his last fight that age hasn’t slowed him down and he is still a powerful fighter. Experience could be the edge in this one, so we expect Povetkin to win a close fight. Regardless of the result, this will be a great fight to get fans excited for Joshua v Ruiz.

Povetkin to win @ 7/5

Filip Hrgovic v Eric Molina

Filip Hrgovic is looking for his 3rd win in just under 7 months when he faces Eric Molina. Hrgovic faces a man who hasn’t won a high profile fight in a few years. Molina did actually work his way up to a heavyweight title fight against Anthony Joshua back in 2016, but he has struggled for the big stage since then. Despite being 27, Hrgovic has only had 9 pro fights, but has won every one of them. His last win came against Mario Heredia, knocking down the big Mexican with a combo in the 3rd round. Despite the lack of experience, Hrgovic should easily win this fight and establish himself as a late bloomer.

Hrgovic to win @ 1/50
