Charles Schwab Challenge Outright Betting Tips

Scottie Scheffler secured the third Major of his career when he won the US PGA Championship on Sunday, and he will be heavily fancied to build on that at this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge in his home state of Texas.

The world number one claimed a five-shot success at Quail Hollow and was second at last year’s Charles Schwab when Davis Riley came out on top, but there are plenty of other hopefuls who will be confident that they can make an impression at Colonial, which first staged a PGA Tour event in 1946.

Berger ready to take that final step

Scheffler will have his backers at 9/4, but it could be that Daniel Berger provides good value as he continues his recovery from the back injury that kept him out of action for 18 months a few years ago.

Berger is now in his second year back in competition and is enjoying a consistent 2025 which suggests that another PGA Tour win may not be too far away.

He has already finished second at the Phoenix Open and third at last month’s RBC Heritage, and while the 33rd he posted at Quail Hollow may not seem like much to shout about, only three players bettered his final-round score of 68.

Berger came through a playoff against Collin Morikawa to win this tournament five years ago and could enjoy further success this time, which would cap a great recovery.

Spieth set to shine at favourite venue

The new US PGA champion will not be the only Texan hoping for the support of the Colonial galleries and this is where three-time Major champion Jordan Spieth could finally get over the line after three years without a victory.

Spieth won at Colonial in 2016 and has three runner-up finishes on this course. His six top-20 finishes in 10 events before Quail Hollow represent a decent return to form.

He missed the cut last week, but his Friday 68 meant he was just unable to get over the line, so a strong showing at a course he loves should be anticipated.

Riley confident enough for bold defence

Davis Riley was the first PGA Tour maiden in 23 Colonial tournaments to claim a maiden success, which he achieved as a 350/1 outsider, and he should be positive after a good week at the PGA.

A triple-bogey on the seventh when he found the water with a pitch shot and then three-putted ended his Major hopes, but he posted three further birdies for a share of second, so it was a decent recovery.

That was only his third top-10 finish of the year, but Riley came out on top by five shots 12 months ago and was also fourth in 2022, so it is dangerous to dismiss him on his Colonial return.

Bet Selection: Davis Riley outright winner each-way @ 50/1
