BetUK West Indies Vs England: T20 Series Tips

England have struggled in white-ball cricket recently, putting in a dismal defence of their 50-over World Cup crown before losing the recent ODI series against the West Indies 2-1.

Now they begin a T20 series against the same opponents, looking to set themselves up for the 20-over World Cup that will take place next year in the West Indies and United States.

Here we pick out some of the best bets ahead of the first game of the series.

Tip 1 - England to win series 3-2 @ 9/5

England’s white-ball form recently has been disappointing, particularly considering their dominance in limited overs cricket.

Coach Matthew Mott is under pressure as a result and winning this series holds major importance to him and his players as such.

The visitors are ranked number two in the world in T20 cricket and are the reigning world champions after lifting the title in Australia last year.

England will be hoping to retain the crown in next year’s World Cup and they are fancied to secure a series win in the West Indies to put them back on track.

Their batting lineup is more suited to the explosive nature of T20 cricket, with power hitters such as Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone and Phil Salt expected to flourish.

They also now have a formidable spin attack with Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali, youngster Rehan Ahmed and Livingstone all capable of featuring.

England have won six of the last nine T20s against the West Indies and while this should be a close series, they can edge it 3-2.

Tip 2 - Adil Rashid top England wicket taker in first game @ 13/4

There were plenty of lessons to be learned from England’s 50-over series defeat to the West Indies as they fielded plenty of inexperienced players.

One of those was Rehan Ahmed, who contributed to the visitors’ excellent spin attack.

England’s twirlers took 12 wickets at an average of 24.08 and a strike rate of just 4.92 per over.

Ahmed may have to make way for the return of Adil Rashid, who is an accomplished bowler in this format.

Rashid is two wickets away from racking up 100 in T20 international cricket and he could even get them in the first game. The Yorkshireman has taken at least two wickets in his last four white-ball games for his country and can carry that form into the first game. He is fancied to be England’s leading wicket taker.

Tip 3 - Nicholas Pooran top West Indies runscorer in first game @ 15/4

The West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran has been one of their outstanding players in recent years and recently signalled his intention to play white-ball cricket by turning down a central contract.

Pooran impressed in the recent Abu Dhabi T10 League with scores of 70 not out, 41 and 35 not out.

The 28-year-old is taken to carry that form into this match and be the hosts’ leading run scorer.

What did we predict in our ODI series tips?

England white-ball captain Jos Buttler has barely had time to digest just how England's Cricket World Cup defence went so wrong.

But a tour of the West Indies, which begins in Antigua on Sunday, means Buttler and coach Matthew Mott must quickly re-energise themselves and put their World Cup flop behind them.

Cricket Betting

England take on the Windies in three ODIs and five T20Is over the next few weeks and it is a chance for Buttler and Mott to see what talent England have coming through.

Only Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Gus Atkinson and Harry Brook remain of England's original 15-man World Cup squad, giving some exciting fresh-faced talent the chance to advertise their wares.

Tip 1 - Will Jacks top England runscorer in first ODI

The fearless batting approach which England have displayed so consistently on their rise to the top in both limited-overs formats was strangely absent during the World Cup.

For so long England have been trendsetters in white-ball cricket, but they lacked clarity of thought and execution in India, especially with the bat.

England's top four at the World Cup have all been left at home and it seems likely that Phil Salt and Will Jacks will open the batting for the tourists in the ODIs against the West Indies, as they did in September against Ireland.

Jacks has long been thought of as an England regular-in-waiting but, despite his promise for Surrey, he has yet to nail down an international berth.

This month's Caribbean tour could be the catalyst for Jacks in that pursuit, and he is taken to punish the Windies' bowlers in Sunday's first ODI in Antigua.

Jacks loves the ball coming on to the bat and there should be few demons in the surface at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, allowing the Surrey star to free his arms.

The all-rounder scored 133 runs from 109 deliveries across two innings against Ireland and could showcase his big-hitting prowess to devastating effect in Antigua.

Tip 2 - Shai Hope top West Indies runscorer in first ODI

West Indies could only watch on as the battle to be crowned world champions unfolded in India.

The Windies failed to qualify for this year's tournament after fluffing their lines during July's qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe, where they beat only Nepal, the United States and Oman.

The Windies' struggles are nothing new and they have lost their last six bilateral ODI series on home soil.

There is a lack of world-class talent in their ranks, although in captain Shai Hope they do have a batter who thrives in this format.

Hope's average of 50.40 is double that of his figure in both Tests or T20s, and he is enjoying an excellent year in 50-over cricket.

The Windies skipper has scored 632 runs at an average of 63.20 in 2023, including three fifties and two centuries.

Hope's finest hour in the international arena came against England in 2017, when he scored two centuries in the same Test at Headingley. They remain his sole hundreds in that format to date.

The 30-year-old has amassed 15 tons in ODIs, however, and he could excel against a new-look England attack on Sunday.
