England vs West Indies Betting Tips

England have plenty to prove as they return to the one-day international arena for their three-match ODI international series starting at Edgbaston on Thursday.

After flopping at the ICC Trophy, England come in on a seven-match losing run in 50-over competition, but they are hoping to turn things around under new captain Harry Brook.

The West Indies arrive fresh from an ODI series draw with Ireland, while England were in red-ball action last week, beating Zimbabwe in a one-off Test match at Trent Bridge.

With the second and third ODIs set to take place in Cardiff on Sunday and The Oval on Tuesday, the scene is set for a fascinating series.

We've picked out three bets to consider for the first ODI between the teams.

Tip 1 - West Indies to win first ODI @ 11/4

England should have conditions in their favour when they host West Indies in Thursday's first ODI in Birmingham, but Brook's side looks a short price to win the opener.

A chance has to be taken on the tourists at the prices on offer, with the threat of the weather playing a part in proceedings - there is a chance of showers throughout the day at Edgbaston.

The toss could therefore be vital, and the cramped odds on England breaking their dreadful ODI run are easy to pass over. The hosts have lost seven 50-over contests in a row and nine of their last 10, with a 3-0 series defeat in India preceding a winless ICC Trophy campaign that included a defeat to Afghanistan.

England has a clear advantage in their knowledge of the pitches and conditions, but the West Indies gained some valuable experience in their series against Ireland which was drawn 1-1.

After losing the opening match when they were bowled out for 180, the Windies got their act together in some style in the second game, scoring 352-8 in their 50 overs before the match was washed out.

Their batters fired again in the final match as they levelled the series, this time scoring 385-7 before winning by 197 runs on the DLS method in a rain-restricted contest.

With batter Keacy Carty in red-hot form and wicketkeeper-skipper Shai Hope also in good nick, the tourists are a value bet to add to England's one-day woes.

Tip 2 - Harry Brook top England runscorer @ 6/1

Brook takes over as England's one-day captain after Jos Buttler stepped down following the ICC Trophy.

The 26-year-old had been vice-captain in both limited-overs formats and has captaincy experience after filling in for Buttler in an ODI series against Australia last September, while he also skippered the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.

However, his captaincy goes, Brook should be one of his team's top performers with the bat, and he could be inspired to top-score for his side at Edgbaston.

Brook scored 110 not out, 87 and 72 in the final three matches against Australia, so it may be that captaincy inspires him rather than being a distraction.

Tip 3 - Keacy Carty top West Indies runscorer @ 4/1

West Indies batter Keacy Carty has had few issues adapting to conditions on this side of the Atlantic and looks a leading candidate to be his side's top scorer after going run crazy in the ODI series against Ireland.

The 28-year-old scored 102 off 109 balls with 13 fours and a six in the abandoned second ODI in Dublin. He was then able to carry that hard-hitting form over to the third match at the Castle Avenue venue on Sunday, blasting 170 off 142 balls with 15 fours and eight sixes.

England will no doubt have him marked down as a danger man after that performance but he could be tough to stop in his current form.
