Anthony Joshua vs Alexander Povetkin: Odds and Preview

The unbeaten Anthony Joshua takes on Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium on September 22nd with one eye on a potential fight with Deontay Wilder, can AJ steamroll over Povetkin and set-up a superfight between arguably England and the United States' best heavyweights? Joshua can't afford to overlook Povetkin, who has only lost to Wladimir Klitschko by decision in his career and has never been knocked out. However, Joshua offers a different quality of bout to the Russian than any other fighter he has faced so far.

The fight can be viewed on Sky Sports Box Office and will cost viewers around £20 to watch and we expect the ring walks to begin around 10pm UK time.

Joshua Vs Povetkin Fight Preview

Anthony Joshua is something of a boxing protégé. Before he can think about taking the next step up against Deontay Wilder for the WBC strap he must face Alexander Povetkin, a very tough and gritty Russian. But who is Povetkin?

He is a 38-year-old Russian who was the WBA champion from 2011 to 2013. With a record of 35-1-0 he is not to be scoffed at. When the two meet on Saturday night in the squared circle it is not only heavyweight vs heavyweight but it’s also Olympic medalist vs Olympic medalist. Povetkin punched his way to a gold medal in 2004 Athens Olympic Games. The ‘White Lion’ has only suffered one defeat in his whole career, losing by unanimous decision to Wladimir Klitschko in Moscow in 2013. So this will certainly be a tough test for the Brit. The Russian is on an 8 fight winning streak since his loss in 2013, which includes a knockout victory over David Price in Cardiff on the Joshua vs Parker undercard. This is a mandatory fight for Joshua, it’s Wilder he and the fans are looking to see.

Both fighters enter the ring with a very impressive record between them. Joshua only going the distance once, against Parker in his last fight. Povetkin has had his hand raised against everyone he has fought bar one fighter, who is one of the greatest ever in Vlad.

Unbeaten Londoner Daniel Dubois is part of the stable of sparring partners the Russian has brought in. Along with his tricky mix of aggression and boxing finesse Povetkin is coming to London to create a huge upset. The Russian has show his solid skillset and power in front of a British crowd and will be looking to do the same against the partisan crowd at Wembley.
