MLS Betting FAQs
What is the MLS?
Major League Soccer (MLS) is the top tier of professional football in the United States including 28 teams, with 3 teams located in Canada and the remaining 25 coming from across the US. This is set to expand to a total of 29 teams for the 2023 season.
How does the MLS work?
Adopting a more unique structure, the MLS is divided into two conferences based on the geography of the teams, creating Eastern and Western Conferences with 14 teams included in each Conference. All the teams will play home and away against the teams included in their Conference, with an additional 10 games to be played against the teams in the opposite Conference. Once all the league games have been played, the team with the most points will be awarded the Supporters Shield, which is the honor for the regular league.
Once the season has concluded, a knockout tournament will be hosted which will decide the winner of the league, bringing the competition to a close in October. This tournament only includes 14 teams from the MLS, consisting of 7 of the highest placed teams from the Eastern Conference and 7 of the teams from the Western Conference. The final game of the season is known as the MLS Cup and is the most prestigious title that can be achieved in the entirety of the MLS competition.
When does the MLS start?
The MLS season runs from February through to October when the final knockout tournament takes place to decide the winner of the MLS Cup.
