Glorious Goodwood Tips

Glorious Goodwood Festival Tips

It is the opening day of Glorious Goodwood on Tuesday, with the feature race being the Group One Goodwood Cup in the stayers’ division.

Here are tips for all seven races on the card, including the feature race at 4.35.

1.40pm – Coral Handicap (5f)

Two-time C&D winner RAASEL was second in the Group Two King George Qatar Stakes 12 months ago. On his return to handicap company, he went close off a 1lb higher mark than this at Ascot (5f) last time out with first-time cheekpieces on.

The talented six-year-old loves it at this course and he has the class to successfully concede weight all around here.

Selection: Raasel

2.15pm – British EBF 40th Anniversary Maiden Stakes (6f)

A lot was expected from ARRAY on his debut at Newbury (6f) last month. The son of No Nay Never made a pleasing start for his connections, finishing second behind Starluck, a smartcolt from Ralph Beckett’s yard, who just had more experience on his side that day.

Expect to see Andrew Balding’s runner step up on his opening appearance on this occasion and that should be enough for him to ditch his maiden tag at the second attempt.

Selection: Array

2.50pm – Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap (1m2f)

After being gelded last year, EAGLE’S WAY went on to prevail in four straight races, which saw him fly up the ratings. Sir Mark Prescott’s gelding made his opening appearance of the season at Yarmouth last month from a new career-high mark of 96. He was denied a fifth straight win by just a head. The lightly raced four-year-old remains off the same mark as his Yarmouth near miss, and this time he can add to his tally of victories.

Selection: Eagle’s Way

3.25pm – Nicholson Gin Vintage Stakes (Group 2 – 7f)

HAATEM won his maiden at the second attempt at Bath (5½f) and since then he has produced some excellent form at Group level. He was a close fifth in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, while last time out he was second in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket. With an official rating of 102, he looks the one to beat in the Group Two Vintage Stakes.

Selection: Haatem

4.00pm – World Pool Lennox Stakes (Group 2 - 7f)

KINROSS won this race in 2021 and then went close to defending his triumphing in it again last year, when finishing a neck behind Sandrine. The six-year-old has proven himself at the highest level over the last 12 months, with two wins coming in Grade One races. Frankie Dettori is back in the saddle on this occasion, and the pair can taste more Glorious Goodwood success on ground which should favour Ralph Beckett’s runner.

Selection: Kinross

4.35pm – Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup (Group 1 – 2m)

COURAGE MON AMI’s Ascot Gold Cup success was one of the most impressive in the race’s history, as it came on just his fourth career start. John and Thady Gosden’s runner could dominate this stayers’ division over the next few years if he keeps improving. The unbeaten four-year-old can show his success at the Royal meeting was no fluke and add another Group One prize to his CV in the feature race on day one.

Selection: Courage Mon Ami

5.05pm – Coral Fillies’ Handicap (1m)

It was an excellent day last Saturday for Owen Burrows, Jim Crowley and Shadwell in the King George. They look set for more success on Tuesday with their hat-trick-seeking filly ROWAYEH.

The daughter of Dubawi ditched her maiden tag at Beverley (1m) and then scored on her handicap debut at Sandown (1m). She can defy her 5lb rise in the ratings for a third straight win.

Selection: Rowayeh

5.35pm – World Pool British EBF Fillies’ Handicap (6f)

It has been an excellent couple of months for KITAI, as she has recorded back-to-back wins at Carlisle (7f) and Pontefract (6f). She showed a lot of speed inside the final furlong of her latest win, which indicates she could have a lot more success at this sprint trip. Her mark of 92 is a career-high, but with conditions set to suit she should complete her hat-trick.

Selection: Kitai

Glorious Goodwood Day 2 Tips

The Group One Sussex Stakes is the feature race on day two of Glorious Goodwood, and it features one of the leading three-year-olds of the season so far in Paddington. There are also two Group Three races earlier in the afternoon.

Here are tips for all seven races on the card, including the feature race at 3.35.

1.50pm – Coral Handicap (1m4f)

In what was his first run since being gelded, AMLETO broke his maiden on soft ground at Chester (1m2½f) back in May. The son of Sea The Stars is likely to appreciate this step up in distance, and off an opening mark of 89, he can double his tally on his handicap debut in the opener on day two.

Selection: Amleto

2.25pm – Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes (Group 3 - 7f)

Connections of FAST RESPONSE will be delighted if any rain falls at Goodwood going into day two of the meeting, given the fact their horse prevailed twice on ‘Heavy’ ground last season. She has also been successful on ‘Good’ and ‘Good To Soft’ ground. The four-year-old almost overcame a terrible wide draw in a Listed race at Chester (7f) last time out. She can give the in-form Karl Burke a group success in this 7f contest.

Selection: Fast Response

3.00pm – Jaeger-Lecoultre Molecomb Stakes (Group 3 - 5f)

KYLIAN prevailed in the Dragon Stakes at Sandown (5f) last month, blowing the field away by six lengths. That was his second straight success of the season, as he also scored on the AW at Newcastle. This horse already has a rating of 105 but with further improvement likely, that figure could jump much higher after this race. Ryan Moore is in the saddle again on this exciting two-year-old sprinter.

Selection: Kylian

3.35pm – Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1 – 1m)

With victories in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes and the Coral-Eclipse, the latter being against the older generation, PADDINGTON has made a strong case to suggest he is the leading three-year-old on both sides of the Irish Sea this season.

Aidan O’Brien’s runner is dropping back down to 1m here, and with as much as 7lb on his side against the older horses, he can extend his winning run and add another major Group One race to his record.

Selection: Paddington

4.10pm – British EBF 40th Anniversary Alice Keppel Fillies’ Conditions Stakes (5f)

HARVANNA has won over this 5f trip twice this season, with wins going her way at York and Yarmouth. She prevailed when going away from her rivals on both occasions. With a strong pace likely in this sprint contest, she has a great chance of picking off this field once again to complete a hat-trick of victories.

Selection: Harvanna

4.45pm – British European Breeders Fund EBF Fillies’ Handicap (1m2f)

Roger Varian’s filly DECORATION has done little wrong on her last two outings at Windsor. She scored over this trip two runs back and then came very close to successfully following up. The lightly raced filly remains off a mark she can have success from, especially if she takes another step forward.

Selection: Decoration

5.20pm – World Pool Handicap (7f)

Trainer Charlie Johnston has two runners in this handicap race over 7f and it is his youngest colt, URBAN SPRAWL, who has the best chance of giving him success. He has run well on similar ground before and he is a C&D here. The son of Iffraaj remains open to improvement, so take him to prevail from this new career-high mark of 93.

Selection: Urban Sprawl

Glorious Goodwood Day 3 Tips

The Group One Nassau Stakes is the feature contest on day three of Glorious Goodwood. It is one of eight races on a bumper card from the Sussex venue.

Here are tips for all eight races on day three of the meeting, including the feature race at 3.35.

1.50pm – Coral Kincsem Handicap (1m2f)

PERFUSE was unable to land a hat-trick in the King George V Stakes last month but it was another solid performance from the son of Lope De Vega, following wins at Nottingham (1m2f) and Doncaster (1m4f). One of those two successes came on heavy ground, so if the rain does fall ahead of day three, there will be no ground concerns for this promising colt.

Selection: Perfuse

2.25pm – Markel Richmond Stake (Group 2 - 6f)

As the only Group 2 winner in the field, JASOUR will need to carry a 3lb penalty in the Richmond Stakes. Clive Cox’s sprinter produced an excellent performance at Newmarket (6f) to land the July Stakes and based on that performance at HQ, he is the one to beat in this two-year-old contest.

Selection: Jasour

3.00pm – John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes (Group 3 – 1m4f)

ESPIONAGE came within a head of winning a Group One race on heavy ground at Saint-Cloud last season on his final outing as a two-year-old. He made a winning return to action in a Listed contest at Roscommon (1m3½f) last month. The son of Galileo has shown he has the stamina for this trip and that he can handle testing conditions.

Selection: Espionage

3.35pm – Qatar Nassau Stakes (Group 1 – 1m2f)

With wins in the French 1,000 Guineas and French Oaks, BLUE ROSE CEN has established herself as one of the leading three-year-olds in Europe. Her latest success in the Prix de Diane was over this 1m2f trip and she flourished for the step up in distance. The daughter of Churchill will be getting 8lb from Nashwa, Al Husn and Above The Curve in this feature race and that will be too much for the older horses to concede to this impressive French-based filly.

Selection: Blue Rose Cen

4.10pm – Jaeger-Lecoultre Nursery Handicap (7f)

GRAY’S INN has already been successful twice this season, with wins coming at Musselburgh (5f) and Chester (7f). She did not disgrace herself in a Listed race at Sandown (7f) last time out on soft ground. A return to a nursery will help, especially off this lenient mark of 73.

Selection: Gray’s Inn

4.45pm – Buccellati Handicap (1m)

ISLE OR JURA is unbeaten in two starts since joining handicap company. He has also benefited from a step up to 1m. George Scott’s gelding looked to have plenty in hand when he scored on the July Course at Newmarket last month. He can carry a 6lb penalty to success here to complete a hat-trick of wins.

Selection: Isle Of Jura

5.20pm – Tatler British EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (7f)

Frankie Dettori’s best chance of a victory on day three of Glorious Goodwood may be with GET JIGGY WITH IT. Charles Hills’ filly went down by less than a length on her debut at Newmarket (7f) last month. The daughter of Highland Reel should come on for that run and with that experience on her side, she makes the biggest appeal in this maiden contest.

Selection: Get Jiggy With It

5.55pm – World Pool Handicap (5f)

ESTATE scored over this 5f trip for the second time this season when he won a close finish at Windsor on his latest appearance. Andrew Balding’s gelding has gone up just 2lb for that success, which keeps him off a workable mark as he bids to add to his tally in the finale on this card.

Selection: Estate

Glorious Goodwood Day 4 Tips

Day four of Glorious Goodwood includes one of the leading sprint races of the week, the Group Two King George Qatar Stakes, where Highfield Princess will be looking to get back to winning ways.

Here are tips for all seven races on day four of the meeting, including the feature race at 3.35.

1.50pm – Coral Goodwood Handicap (2m4½f)

Northumberland Plate winner CALLING THE WIND has a 4lb rise in the ratings to defy here in this handicap contest over the extended 2m4f trip, but he looks like the horse to beat again. The Irish raider is proven over this distance and this remains a workable mark for the talented stayer.

Selection: Calling The Wind

2.25pm – Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3 – 1m)

Group 3 winner NOSTRUM has suffered just one defeat so far in his career and that came in the Dewhurst Stakes last season. Sir Michael Stoute’s runner made an impressive return to action when he prevailed in a Listed race at Newmarket (1m) last month. He is clear of his rivals on ratings in this race and there is likely to be a lot more to come from the son of Kingman this season.

Selection: Nostrum

3.00pm – Coral Golden Mile (1m)

BLUE FOR YOU prevailed over this distance by three lengths on his latest appearance at York. He was given a patient ride by Daniel Tudhope before he finished with a wet sail. David O’Meara’s gelding will need to carry a 3lb penalty here, but it still leaves him 3lb well off at the weights as he goes up 6lb in the future.

Selection: Blue For You

3.35pm – King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2 – 5f)

HIGHFIELD PRINCESS was the most impressive sprinter in Europe in the second half of last season, with three Group One wins going her way. John Quinn’s mare has yet to score this year, but she has been knocking on the door at the highest level. She should be fully fit now and ready to take advantage of this drop down in grade at Goodwood.

Selection: Highfield Princess

4.10pm – l’Ormarins King’s Plate Glorious Stakes (Group 3 – 1m4f)

HAMISH prevailed at this level for the fifth time in his career when he landed the Silver Cup Stakes at York last month. He just did enough in that 1m6f contest, beating Scriptwriter by a head. The reliable seven-year-old looks a different class to his rivals in this field so there can be more success for William Haggas’ gelding on ground which will suit him.

Selection: Hamish

4.45pm – Ire-Incentive It Pays To Buy Irish Nursery Handicap (6f)

After scoring on the AW at Chelmsford (6f), STARLUST made a winning debut on turf at Newbury (6f) last month, making all in that sprint contest. Ralph Beckett’s colt has been given a mark of 89 in this nursery, but with improvement likely, and Connor Planas taking 5lb off his back, he can complete a hat-trick of wins.

Selection: Starlust

5.20pm – Coral Handicap (1m3f)

The first-time cheekpieces helped INTRICACY find the improvement he needed to get off the mark for the campaign at Ascot (1m2f) last month. With the experience he now has and the use of headgear again, he will have a great chance of defying his 6lb rise in the ratings.

Selection: Intricacy

Glorious Goodwood Day 5 Tips

It’s the fifth and final day of Glorious Goodwood on Saturday, with the Stewards’ Cup and Lillie Langtry Stakes being two of the highlights on the final day of the meeting.

Here are tips for all seven races on day five, including the big sprint race at 3.35.

1.50pm – Coral Stewards’ Sprint Handicap (6f)

ZAMAN JEMIL appeared to prevail with plenty in hand when he won a handicap over this distance at Thirsk last month. He has a 6lb penalty on his back this time, but the progressive sprinter looks capable of having more success in the consolation race for the Stewards’ Cup.

Selection: Zaman Jemil

2.25pm – Coral Summer Handicap (1m6f)

It has been an excellent campaign so far for the lightly raced SWEET WILLIAM. The son of Sea the Stars scored in a novice contest at Doncaster (1m4f) with first-time blinkers on. He then showed his versatility to prevail on his handicap debut over 2m½f at Newbury. John and Thady Gosden’s gelding can defy a 7lb rise in the ratings to complete his hat trick.

Selection: Sweet William

3.00pm – Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2 - 1m6f)

FREE WIND has been successful three times at this level, including a triumph in the Middleton Fillies’ Stakes at York earlier this season. The five-year-old mare had to settle for fifth place in the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot, but that was a much hotter race than she is faced with here. The ratings suggest she should bounce back to success, with conditions unlikely to be a problem for her.

Selection: Free Wind

3.35pm – Coral Stewards’ Cup (6f)

Charles Hills has won the Stewards’ Cup twice in his career so far, and he has an excellent chance of a third success this year with ORAZIO. The four-year-old began the season with back-to-back victories at Newmarket (6f) and Ascot (6f) respectively. He had to settle for sixth place in the Wokingham, but it was another strong performance in a large field. The son of Caravaggio remains off the same mark as his Royal Ascot run and with more improvement likely, he can land this valuable prize for his connections.

Selection: Orazio

4.10pm – Racing Welfare Handicap (7f)

With four victories going her way, SOPHIA’S STARLIGHT has shot up the ratings this season. The three-year-old filly did very well to finish second at this course (6f) on her latest appearance as her saddle slipped in the early stages of the race. Grant Tuer’s runner is back up to 7f here, and she can get back to winning ways from her unchanged mark of 87.

Selection: Sophia’s Starlight

4.45pm – British EBF 40th Anniversary Maiden Stakes (7f)

INDIVIDUALISM just found one horse better than him on his debut at Ayr (7f) last month. He was beaten by a previous winner from David O’Meara’s yard that was able to carry a penalty to success. With that experience now on his side, Charlie Johnston’s runner can go one place better this time and break his maiden in the penultimate contest on this card.

Selection: Individualism

5.20pm – Coral Handicap (1m1f)

One of the most competitive handicap contests of the week comes in the finale of the meeting, a contest over 1m1f. Ryan Moore rides for his father Gary Moore on board the lowest-weighted horse in the race, ONE STEP BEYOND. The six-year-old was successful at Ascot last month. He is bidding for his third victory in four starts, and he can continue his upward trajectory in the ratings with another big run.

Selection: One Step Beyond
