Cheltenham Stayers Hurdle Betting Tips

The Stayers Hurdle is the biggest event of the third day of the Cheltenham Festival. It is a race that might not bring about the biggest names when compared to other feature races, but close battles and outside winners make this one not to miss. Lisnagar Oscar was a huge outsider winner last year at 50/1. Paisley Park is the early favourite and is looking for a repeat of his 2019 win, but there is plenty of potential for another outside winner. Bet UK have brought racecards and Cheltenham Stayers Hurdle betting tips to help you out ahead of the Cheltenham Festival. Bet UK will also provide Cheltenham Festival betting tips and the latest odds throughout the event.

Bet UK’s online betting has horse racing betting odds for Stayers Hurdle, as well as odds for all races throughout the Cheltenham Festival.

History of the Cheltenham Stayers Hurdle

Originally run in 1912, the Stayers Hurdle has been one of the highlights of the Cheltenham Festival since it was brought back into the schedule in 1946. Since then, the Hurdle has been run over 3 miles and is always keenly contested. One of the national hunt’s biggest names found huge success in the Stayers Hurdle. Big Buck’s amazingly won the race four times in a row from 2009 - 2013, each time ridden by Ruby Walsh. Walsh is unsurprisingly the most successful jockey to have taken part in the Stayers Hurdle, with a 2017 Nichols Canyon win to add to his Big Buck’s run.

2020 Stayers Hurdle Betting Tip

Kemboy - 12/1

Paisley Park is the early favourite for the 2021 Stayers Hurdle, but we’re reluctant to back them at 11/4 this early on. Last year, Paisley Park was again the early favourite, but disappointed with a 7th place finish, as Lisnagar Oscar eventually won. So, we’re looking elsewhere in the field and backing Willie Mullins’ Kemboy. Kemboy ran in the Gold Cup last year and despite some early hype, failed to deliver. With no confirmation of Kemboy trying for the Gold Cup again, we suspect Mullins might be eyeing up one of the other headline Cheltenham races. At 12/1 in the ante-post, there’s plenty of value for us to get behind Kemboy.

When we talk about ante-post betting, we mean that we are placing a bet on a horse before it is 100% confirmed that it is running. This increases your risk of not winning, as your horse might run in a different race, but also means that you will get bigger odds. That is why we can get Kemboy at odds of 12/1. Whilst you might be worried about what happens if Kemboy doesn’t run, or commits to another run at the Gold Cup, you don’t need to worry at Bet UK. We are offering No Runner No Bet on the Stayers Hurdle, meaning that if your horse doesn’t run, your bet will be refunded.
