Premier League Matchday 23 Tips

This weekend’s Premier League action promises to be quite something. Table-toppers Liverpool host a reinforced Ipswich, and second-placed Arsenal travel to relegation-threatened Wolves in the 3 p.m. games.

Manchester City will attempt to overhaul Cole Palmer’s Chelsea in the late game on Saturday before Fulham face Manchester United in the pick of Sunday’s four clashes.

We have picked out selections for six Premier League matches.

Tip 1: Cody Gakpo to score at any time v Ipswich @ 5/4

Cody Gakpo was rested in midweek as Liverpool maintained their perfect Champions League campaign at home to Lille. The Dutchman has been deadly at Anfield this season, scoring in five of the Reds’ last six home Premier League games, and he will be desperate to extend his run against an Ipswich side who conceded six times at home to Manchester City last weekend.

Tip 2: Kai Havertz to score at any time v Wolves @ 8/5

Arsenal's effectiveness from set-pieces has kept them in the title race this season, and Mikel Arteta’s men will look to exploit that facet of the game against Wolves, who have conceded more set-piece goals than any other team this season. Kai Havertz could be a leading goal threat for the Gunners. The German, who has scored in back-to-back games, leads all forwards in headed attempts from set-pieces.

Tip 3: Newcastle to score over 4.5 goals v Southampton @ 23/4

Bournemouth halted Newcastle’s nine-game win streak in emphatic style last weekend, but Eddie Howe’s men should return to winning ways when they travel to face struggling south coast side Southampton. The Saints have lost eight of their 10 home league games this term and conceded exactly five goals in three of the last four at St Mary’s. The Magpies have hit 10 in their last three away trips and look capable of putting on a five-star display.

Tip 4: Over 3.5 goals in Manchester City v Chelsea @ 21/20

Paris Saint-Germain exposed Manchester City’s defensive frailties on Wednesday and that should have Cole Palmer licking his lips as he prepares to face his former club again. Chelsea have not exactly been brilliant at the back lately, but they sit above City in the table by virtue of their attacking prowess. With Erling Haaland and Phil Foden recapturing their scoring form and Ruben Dias looking unlikely to feature, this clash bears the hallmarks of a goal bonanza.

Tip 5: Aston Villa to beat West Ham 2-1 @ 6/1

Two weeks ago, these two claret and blue clubs met in the FA Cup with Villa denying Graham Potter a debut victory when they came from behind to win 2-1. An identical result looks possible, given West Ham have not looked like scoring more than once in many of their recent matches. Villa have scored exactly two goals in their last four games at home, winning three of those contests 2-1.

Tip 6: Fulham and Manchester United to draw @ 47/20

Fulham have drawn six of their last 10 Premier League games, including their last four at Craven Cottage. Meanwhile, struggling United have drawn two of their last five road trips in the league and also held Arsenal 1-1 after 90 minutes in the cup. Games between these two clubs are usually close, and it would be no surprise to see this one finish level on the north bank of the River Thames.
