French Ligue 1 Betting
If you’re looking for online betting on the French Ligue 1, then you’re in the right place. With tonnes of opportunities to bet on the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Lyon, Marseille and many more teams across the nation, following these sides could also prove beneficial for Europa League betting as three sides are guaranteed to enter that competition from Ligue 1 every season.
French Ligue 1 Betting Markets
When it comes down to the betting markets of Ligue 1, markets are split into two sections, per game and outright. For the outright markets, players can bet on teams to be relegated, which team is going to win the league and who will finish in the top four. Per game we have all of the typical betting markets that would be expected such as corners, cards, goals, shots and goalscorers.
Who has won Ligue 1 the most?
In the years of the professional Ligue 1, St Etienne have won the title the most thanks to their dominance in the 1960’s and 1970’s where they picked up eight of their ten wins. Just one club have 9 title wins and that is Marseille who would be joint first if they hadn’t been stripped of the 1992/93 league title due to bribery of Valenciennes players on the final day of the season. Lyon have the most consecutive wins with 7 from 2001/02 through to 2008/09. Remarkably these are their only title wins in their history.
Last Season’s placings

Who got promoted to Ligue 1?
In 2018/19, FC Metz and Stade Brestois 29 were promoted from Ligue 2, replacing Stade Malherbe Caen and En Avant de Guingamp. Dijon FCO defeated Lens to ensure that the Ligue 2 side did not take their place in Ligue 1.
For 2019/20, there was a lot of controversy regarding relegation with Toulouse FC and Amiens SC being relegated and replaced with Lorient and Lens with Nimes winning the play-off and winning the right to stay in the league this season.
Is Ligue 1 weak for betting?
When you compare the top five leagues in Europe, the Ligue 1 is weak, perhaps even the weakest out of the five. PSG have dominated the league but hadn’t made it past the Quarter-Finals in the Champions League until the 2019/2020 season. However, as a competitive league, it is quite strong. PSG and Marseille are two dominant teams but aside from them, anyone could finish anywhere with just 11 points separating 5th and 17th last year.
When it comes down to the full season, many teams won't stand a chance at beating PSG for the Ligue 1 title. However, when it comes to betting on the French Cup, as teams only need to best PSG over one game, they have significantly better chances of success.
