Smith v Teixeira Betting Tips
Tale Of The Tape
|Height||6ft 4||6ft 2|
Anthony Smith looks to build on his win over Alexander Gustafsson as he takes on the experienced Glover Teixeira on Wednesday. Smith is the favourite heading into this fight, but he has overcome underdog odds in his recent fights. In his last 4 fights, Smith has earned 3 Performance Of The Night accolades as he has fought against tougher opponents. Despite not excelling at any particular aspect of MMA, Smith’s all round talent and determination make him a tough fight for anyone.
Despite being 40 years old, Glover Teixeira comes into this fight on the back of a 3 fight win streak. Teixeira is a submission specialist, with 10 of his 12 UFC wins coming by submission, so we can expect a lot of his fight to be on the ground. At a 7/5 outsider however, it looks like his recent career resurgence still might not be enough to get him the win against Anthony Smith.
We are backing Smith to win, and considering Texiera’s strength on the ground, we expect Smith to try and keep the fight standing up as much as possible. With that being said, we are backing Smith to win by KO/TKO/DQ.
Rothwell v Saint Preux Betting Tips
The co-main event pits Ben Rothwell against Ovince Saint-Preux. Rothwell won his last fight comfortably against Stefan Struve back in December, his first win in almost 4 years. In his 19 years of fighting, Rothwell has won 37 fights, including 28 by knockout. With 50 pounds of extra weight on Saint Preux, expect Rothwell to add to that knockout counter. Saint Preux does have an extra 2 inches of reach however, so he can keep a bit of distance between himself and Rothwell if needed. Saint Preux is making the step up to heavyweight to fight Rothwell, the first time he has fought in the division.
Saint Preux might be a completely different fighter at heavyweight, but with Rothwell already having a comfortable weight advantage, we are backing him to win by KO/TKO.
Hernandez v Dober Betting Tips
The next bout on the card is in the lightweight division, between Alexander Hernandez and Drew Dober. The betting odds suggest that this could be one of the closest fights of the night, with both fighters odds on to win. Hernandez is the in form fighter, with an impressive record of 13-2. 5 of those wins have come by decision, the highest count of any method, so this fight could go the distance. Drew Dober’s record suggests the same outcome, with 12 of his 32 bouts ending with a decision. However, Dober’s last 2 fights have both ended in wins via KO within the first round. Does this mean we will see a change in approach from Dober heading into this fight?
Both fighters have a history of lasting the full 3 rounds, so expect this fight to go the distance on Wednesday. With the actual outcome seemingly so tight, we are simply backing the Fight To Go The Distance betting market.
Simon v Borg Betting Tips
The Bantamweight fight between Ricky Simon and Ray Borg is another fight that we can expect to at least reach the third round. 6 of the 8 combined fights that they have both been combined in have gone to a decision, although Ricky Simon might have the better chance of ending the fight before then. Although 8 of his 15 wins have come by decision, he also has 5 knockout wins to his name. Ray Borg on the other hand, is earning a reputation as a submission specialist. Almost on the exact opposite side to Simon, Borg has won 6 fights by submissions, with a further 6 coming by decision.
The two contrasting styles will make this one of the most intriguing fights of the night. Will Ricky Simon’s floor game be advanced enough to stop Borg? Or will Borg have worked on his punching to potentially knockout Simon? With so many different variables possible, we are just picking a straight winner, potentially against the grain, with Ray Borg at 13/10.
Roberson v Vettori Betting Tips
The last fight on the main card is between Karl Roberson and Marvin Vettori. Roberson started his career as a knockout specialist, winning 5 of his first 6 matches within the first round. Since then, Roberson has seen an increase in the quality of his opponents, and has had to adopt a slightly different approach. His last 4 wins have been split between 2 by decision, and 2 by submission. However, Marvin Vettori will welcome Roberson taking the fight to the ground. 8 of Vettori’s wins are from submission, although his last 6 fights have all gone the distance. That includes a split decision loss to Israel Adesanya, which proves that Vettori, still 26, could become the real deal.
Vettori might be the younger of the two, but his ability to control fights, particularly on the ground, puts him in good stead against Karl Roberson. Vettori to win on points at 7/5 looks as good a value as anything else on this card.
