Swansea City v Nottingham Forest Match Report

Who Hit The Target? - Swansea City 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Swansea and Nottingham Forest played out a battling draw at the Liberty Stadium, with neither side truly deserving of taking home the 3 points. It was a scrappy affair in South Wales. Referee Scott Duncan did little to help the game, barely giving any fouls in the first half as both sides tested their luck.

Nottingham Forest had the better chances of the first half. Matty Cash’s found some joy down the right hand side, and his low cross fell to Ben Osborn who produced a good save from Erwin Mulder in the Swansea net. It was Osborn again who tested Mulder with a strong strike that was luckily aimed directly down the middle of the goal. Oli McBurnie had Swansea’s best chance as he nearly got onto the end of a looping ball from Celina. The first half was mainly marred by 2 more injuries to Swansea’s already threadbare squad. Bersant Celina and Jay Fulton were both withdrawn before half time.

Erwin Mulder Keeps Forest at Bay

It was Mulder who continued to dominate his defence and protect the Swansea goal throughout the second half. Between Mulder and Mike van Der Hoorn, Forest’s chances were limited in the second half. Lewis Grabban was placed through on goal before a last minute van Der Hoorn tackle stopped him in his tracks. In the last couple of minutes, a volley from Gil Dias was hit through a crowded 18 yard box, but Mulder scrambled across his goal line to preserve the 3 points.

After his vital saves in the first half, Mulder is our man of the match against Nottingham Forest. Throughout the game, he commanded his 18 yard box and was in complete control. Considering Mulder came into the season as firm back up to Kristoffer Nordfeldt, he has stepped up the plate when called upon. The Dutchman is now keeping Nordfeldt out of the team, which shows just how highly he is rated by manager Graham Potter. With Swansea’s injury troubles, he could be called upon even more in the coming weeks.
