Ladies Day at Royal Ascot

Ladies day is a tradition at all major UK racing festivals and Royal Ascot is no different. Ladies Day falls on Thursday 21st June in 2018, with thousands of racing fans flocking to the racecourse, making it the busiest day of the whole festival.

History of Ladies Day

Ascot racecourse has been holding horse racing events for over 300 years, with Royal Ascot now the biggest event of the UK racing calendar. With such a long tradition, it is no wonder that Ascot was also the founding place of the traditional Ladies Day. The day is always held on the Thursday of the festival, which is often the busiest day and the day with the most exciting races. The Gold Cup is held on Ladies Day each year and is one of the biggest races anywhere in the world.

Historically, Ladies Day offered free entry for all women, or allowed women to attend an event that was previously male only. These days, it offers a chance for all attendees to dress up to the nines and even win prizes for the best dressed. Prizes in the past have included cars, holidays and unique day experiences that are often provided by local businesses. Dress codes are often strictest on Ladies Day to ensure that everyone is looking their best.
