2:25 - Win Bigger On The Betfair Exchange Chase
If you’re looking for as close to a sure thing as horse racing can offer, then you won’t come much closer than Altior at 1/2. Before he was beaten by Cyrname at Ascot in November, Altior was on a 19 race winning streak. Nicky Henderson had already gotten Altior established as one of the greatest horses of this generation and he will surely be hoping to get him back to winning ways this weekend. He faces a field with some recognisable names, in Sceau Royal and Kalashnikov. But, we have already seen Altior out perform Sceau Royal recently, and Kalashnikov always seems to fall short on the big occasions, so will they really pose a threat?
3:00 Newbury - Betfair Denman Chase
2 or 3 years ago, Might Bite at a price like 13/2 would have been completely unheard of. After a year of unimpressive racing however, Might Bite has drifted massively. But, regardless of how he has performed in his last few outings, we all know just how good Might Bite can be on his day. This is a horse that has won at every major racing festival and performed on the biggest of stages. His main competition on Saturday will be Native River, another impressive runner who seemingly wins everywhere he goes. But, similar to Might Bite, his last year of racing has hardly been stellar. If both horses are on form, then this will easily be the best contest of the day, and we fancy Might Bite to at least end up in the places.
3:35 Newbury - Betfair Hurdle
The headline race on Newbury Super Saturday is the Betfair Hurdle at 3:35. This year, the Hurdle has a somewhat open, 24 horse field, meaning there are plenty of opportunities to find some value. We’ve opted for Never Adapt at 15/2 for our Dark Horse of Super Saturday, coming in a bit longer than the pre race favourites. Nicky Henderson hasn’t won this race in 7 years, so he will surely be hoping to regain the Betfair Hurdle. Never Adapt has impressed so far in a short career in which he has a 50% win rate. That included his most recent outing at Kempton back in January. The track is similar at Newbury, with the same amount of hurdles and only 1/2f longer in length, so there’s no reason we can’t see a similar performance from Never Adapt on Saturday.
