The Masters Darts Betting Tips & Preview
Bet UK’s resident darts writer is back again with The Masters Darts betting tips and preview for one of 2019’s most interesting tournaments. This year marks the 7th time the event has taken place and all of the action will be broadcast on ITV4 from 1-3 February at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes. Michael van Gerwen won the title last year with an 11-9 victory over fellow Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld in the final. Will he be able to lift the trophy yet again with 15 of the best players on the planet chasing him?
Here are our darts betting tips for The Masters 2019.
The Masters Darts Tips
Outright The Masters Darts Tip
After painfully missing out on what would have been his first ever World Darts Championship on New Years Day, Michael Smith will be desperate to bounce back with a victory in this event and thus he is our tip to come out on top in Milton Keynes. Bully Boy’s route to the World final was exceptional, beating Ron Meulenkamp, John Henderson, Ryan Searle, Luke Humphries and Nathan Aspinall on his way to a showdown with Michael van Gerwen. Unfortunately the final did not go his way, but he’ll have taken a lot from the big match experience on the biggest stage in darts.
Michael Smith has certainly always had the talent, but it is in the last year or so that he has really stepped it up in terms of getting results when the pressure is on. Victory in the Shanghai Masters was a highlight of his 2018 while he also reached the Premier League Darts Final. At odds of 8/1*, we believe that Smith offers good value in a 16 man field as he should see off Ian White in the first round and is then likely to face an out of form player in round 2.
Daryl Gurney vs Dave Chisnall
When it comes to darts betting, it is always tough to predict a winner when both players are the same odds. With both at 20/23*, it shows that Daryl Gurney and Dave Chisnall are evenly matched. Bet UK are giving the edge to Chizzy on this occasion though, as he looked much stronger throughout the World Darts Championship than his Northern Irish counterpart.
Chisnall refound some of his best form as he convincingly beat Josh Payne, Kim Huybrechts and Jamie Lewis before falling to Gary Anderson. Gurney could have faced Chisnall in fourth round of that tournament but he blew the chance by losing a thriller to Jamie Lewis. We believe Chizzy will bring his A Game for The Masters Darts and successfully make it through to round two.
Gerwyn Price vs James Wade
James Wade has had an interesting few months. At the back end of 2018, The Machine was able to win two consecutive TV tournaments, the European Championship and the World Series of Darts Finals, in a stunning resurgence in form. Before those victories, Wade had been struggling for form but now he definitely seems back on the upward curve. This includes being back in the PDC Order of Merit top 10 as well as earning a place in the 2019 Premier League Darts.
It has not all been smooth sailing for The Machine though, as the World Championship saw controversy reign as Wade was embroiled in a disagreement with Japan’s Seigo Asada in an altercation that was of Wade’s own making. That lead to a swift apology and an investigation by the Darts Regulation Authority, but in terms of his play on the oche things have been going pretty well. We fancy James Wade to come past Gerwyn Price in a close encounter in round one.
Stephen Bunting vs Darren Webster
Stephen Bunting has been drafted in as a late replacement for Gary Anderson, as The Flying Scotsman had to withdraw from the tournament due to the back injury that has been plaguing him for over a year. Anderson is still a doubt for the opening night of the Premier League Darts next week and it remains to be seen whether the physio work will be enough to subdue the severe back pain.
In terms of this first round match in The Masters, Bunting really has nothing to lose considering he didn’t even expect to be in the tournament. His opponent Darren Webster has not been in great form at all either, so The Bullet may fancy his chances. Both men were disappointing in the World Darts Championship losing in the second round, so it is difficult to judge how they will fare in front of the ITV4 cameras. Bet UK are predicting that Stephen Bunting will edge this one though, and he is currently at odds of 4/5*.
Peter Wright vs Adrian Lewis
Two of the biggest names in world darts, neither Peter Wright nor Adrian Lewis will be particularly happy with drawing each other in the first round. Lewis has done well to fight his way back into the top 16 in the world and is back to playing some good stuff, but still not to the level he was a few years back.
Peter Wright has had a difficult few months on the board and has badly struggled for results. Losing convincingly to Toni Alcinas of Spain in the second round of the World Darts Championship was a huge disappointment for Snakebite and we may see him take a bit of time to recover his top form again. For this reason, Bet UK are predicting Adrian Lewis to pull off the victory here at odds of 21/20*.
