Manchester City v Manchester United Betting Tips and Preview
The first Manchester derby of the season kicks off at 4:30pm on Sunday, with both Manchester teams experiencing very different starts to the season. Pep Guardiola’s men look on course for a second Premier League title in a row and sit top of the league after 11 games. Even after facing 3 of the current top 5, City are still unbeaten with the best goal difference in the league. Manchester United, on the other hand, look a shadow of their former selves. Last year was the highest league finish since Sir Alex Ferguson left the Red Devils, but Jose Mourinho will struggle to be as successful this year. United seem unable to defend or attack and with problems all over the pitch, this might be the furthest away from Manchester City that United have ever been.
Manchester City Premier League Form
Last Time Out In The Premier League
Manchester City continued their dominant Premier League campaign with a 6-1 win against Southampton at the Etihad. City were 3-0 up after just 20 minutes, after Sergio Aguero and David Silva followed up a Wesley Hoedt own goal. Raheem Sterling grabbed a double before Leroy Sane added a late 6th as Southampton struggled to contain City throughout the match. A midfield trio of Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan provides the perfect balance between creativity and defensive nous, allowing the rest of the team to focus solely on their own responsibilities. City have the strongest defence in the league, so will be disappointed to have conceded, but with so many goals being scored, it won’t be Guardiola’s main worry.
Manchester United Premier League Form
Last Time Out In The Premier League
Manchester United had Marcus Rashford to thank for a late 92nd minute against Bournemouth. United were 1-0 down after just 11 minutes as Callum Wilson grabbed his 6th goal of the season. Bournemouth could have grabbed a goal even sooner, but failed to convert any of their chances. Anthony Martial’s electric form continued with a 35th minute equaliser, but United were still second best heading into the break. Marcus Rashford had a golden opportunity to put United ahead in the second half, but could only fire at Nathan Ake on the line. Rashford made up for his mistake in the last minute however, firing into the back of the net after a scramble in the 6 yard box.
Manchester City v Manchester United Head to Head Record
Manchester City Wins - 51
Draws - 52
Manchester United Wins - 73
It’s no surprise that Manchester United has historically dominated the Manchester derby, but in recent years, it has been much more equal. Since 2010, both City and United have won 10 times, reflecting just how close the sides have been. Typically the Manchester derby hasn’t produced a lot of goals in recent years, despite the attacking prowess of both sides. In the last 10 fixtures, there have been just under 2.5 goals. Last time the sides met at the Etihad, Manchester United completed a remarkable second half comeback to stop City winning the title. 2 goals from Paul Pogba followed by a Chris Smalling finish was enough to give United the 3 points and postpone City’s title celebrations.
