Manchester City v Tottenham Betting Tips
After playing out one of the all time classic Champions League games this week, Manchester City and Tottenham face each other again on Saturday. After ruining their hopes of a quadruple, Spurs will be hoping to spoil the title race for City, as they look to secure a top 4 place of their own. After a last minute disallowed goal sent Spurs through in midweek however; expect City to have some extra motivation coming into this one.
Manchester City Recent Form
Last Time Out In The Premier League
Manchester City continued to stick in the Premier League title race with a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Raheem Sterling had the best early chance but failed to score an open goal from just 6 yards out. He made up for it early on however, lifting the ball over Guaita to give City the early lead. City seemed too eager to score the next goal and seemed to get in each others way as they searched for the second. It finally came in the second half, again from Sterling who cleverly steered the ball into the bottom corner from Sane’s cross. Luka Milivojevic scored a smart free kick to threaten a late comeback, but Gabriel Jesus’ first goal since February ended any of City’s worries. With the win, City kept the pressure on Liverpool with just under a month of the season remaining. City sit in 2nd on 83 points, 2 points behind Liverpool but with a game in hand.
Tottenham Hotspur Recent Form
Last Time Out In The Premier League
In between their 2 Champions League ties, Tottenham faced Huddersfield at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. With the Terriers already relegated, this was expected to be a drubbing and Spurs duly delivered. Unlikely scorer Victory Wanyama opened the scoring after 24 minutes, just his second goal in two years. Three minutes later, Lucas Moura added a second from a tight angle to put Spurs fully in control. Tottenham continued to dominate but failed to take any of their chances until late on. Lucas grabbed a late third before completing his hat trick with a spectacular finish in injury time. The win keeps Spurs top 4 hopes well and truly alive and they currently sit in 3rd place on 67 points.
Where’s the value bet?
In recent years, Manchester City v Tottenham has been one of the highest scoring fixtures in the Premier League. In the last 5 games at the Etihad, there has been an average of 4.6 goals per game, normally in City’s favour. Of the 23 goals, City scored 17 of them, including a 6-0 drubbing in 2013. If Wednesday’s Champions League tie taught us anything, it’s that both sides are still dangerous going forward with issues at the back. Similar line ups on Saturday will lead to tired legs and we could see some action late on in this one. Regardless of whether they come straight away or in injury time, there should be a few goals here.
