The Gary Player Course, DLF Golf and Country Club, Gurgaon, India. 7,655 Yards
The European Tour heads to India this week for the co-sanctioned Indian Open, and for its third visit to the Gary Player Course at the DLF Golf & Country Club. Ranked as one of the toughest courses in Asias with narrow, undulating, fairways, the Player course is one of the most unpredictable on the circuit with 100/1 Indian SSP Chawrasia and 50/1 Englishman Matt Wallace being the two victors on the previous stagings of the events at this venue.
One staggering statistic is that in the two years of the tournament, only 3 players have managed to avoid carding a double bogey or worse on a track where pitfalls and danger lurk around every corner.
Last Five WInners:
2018: Matt Wallace - 11/1
2017: SSP Chawrasia -7/1
2016: SSP Chawrasia -5/1
2015: Anirban Lahiri -7/1
2014 : Siddikur Rahman -14/1

The Market Leaders
India’s favourite golfing son Anirban Lahiri is taking a break from the PGA Tour and returns to his home nation as 16/1* favourite at an event where 15 of the past 27 winners have come from India. Lahiri won this event in 2015, and that was the fourth title he's captured in his homeland (two Sail Opens and Panasonic Open on the Asian Tour). He was fifth on his course debut behind Chawrasia two years ago after a slow start, and although he could only finish 34th 12 months ago, he rightly holds strong claims at the top of the market this year.
Thai, Jazz Janewattananond is a worthwhile second favourite following top 10s in each of his last 3 outings at 18/1*. Other primary market contenders include Spain’s Jorge Campillo and young Indian Shunhankar Sharma who posted a 7th place finish here last time out.
Rob’s Betting Tips
Headline Betting Tip
This week I am taking the slightly unusual step of advising that we throw a substantial win bet at the favourite. Our results on the European Tour to date haven’t been as strong as they could be, and our selection of Fox last week turned out to be another disappointing miss. This week, however, I am extremely bullish and excited at the chances of Lahiri. As outlined above, he has pedigree both at the course with a 5th placed finish in 2017, and in India where the winner has come from on over half the staging of this event.
There could be an argument that Lahiri is almost too good to win this tournament with the tricky course and unforgiving run off areas not always being conducive to the cream rising to the top, however if he gets his fair rub of the green, I expect Lahiri to go very close to taking his home title this week with 4 points win at 15/1*.
The second pick this week is consistent Spaniard Nacho Elvira. Elvira is not particularly long, but he is a very talented player, particularly around the greens, and on the back of consecutive 2nd place finishes, he is primed to contend again this week in India. Nacho has turned up for both previous stagings of this tournament at the Gary Player course, making the cut and finishing 40th last year so is not unfamiliar in these surroundings and is worth 3 Points e/w at 28/1*.
Playing very much on the home angle, the third and final selection this week is home player Rashid Khan. Khan has been in exceptional form on the Asian Tour with a win and two further top 10s in his last 3 outings. Khan is again a not exceptionally long hitter, and could be another that is suited by the slightly quirkier test that is expected this week. 2 Points e/w at 100/1*.
