St Leger Day Four Betting Tips

With the flat horse racing season drawing to a close, we're off to Doncaster for one of UK Horse Racing's most anticipated Group 1s in September, The St Leger. However, before the main event, punters will be treated to four days of top-class racings where handicappers and sprinters will feature in Group 2 and Group 3 races.

The big race is here as today we’re looking ahead to the St Leger. One of the most prestigious races in the UK horse racing calendar, it’s the oldest of the five British classics and concludes the British Triple Crown alongside the Guineas and the Derby.

Nap of the Day

Reach for the Moon - 2:20 Doncaster (Champagne Stakes)

John and Thady Gosden have already enjoyed a fruitful week at Doncaster, picking up a treble in the hands of Frankie Dettori on Thursday. Their chosen mount for the Champagne Stakes is Reach for the Moon who is our Nap of the Day betting tip. Currently 4/6 in the betting, he won his last outing in the Solario Stakes and could provide a winner for The Queen here.

Dark Horse of the Day

Cruyff Turn - 5:10 Doncaster

Our Dark Horse of the Day betting tip comes in the final race at Doncaster in the form of Cruyff Turn. Victorious last time out at York over a similar distance, he seems to like the big occasion after stepping up in grade from his runs at Redcar and Leicester earlier in the season. Preferring good ground, trainer Tim Easterby will be hoping the ground dries out before his run.

Longshot of the Day

Interpretation - 3:35 Doncaster (St Leger Stakes)

Hollie Doyle is a jockey in form, and she heads to the St Leger as the jockey for Aiden O’Brien aboard our longshot betting tip of the day Interpretation. Currently sits at 14/1 in the betting. But given his recent form in Ireland, we think those odds may shorten before the start of the race. Still, a novice when it comes to race of this calibre, he’s won three from three so far this season, all of them on similar ground and over a similar distance, so we’re expecting a solid performance here.

St Leger Festival Day Three Betting Tips

It’s the penultimate date of the St Leger Festival, and our tipster has picked out their latest bets and insights following what proved to be a very eventful Ladies' Day.

Nap of the Day

Stradivarius - 2:40 Doncaster Cup Stakes

We can’t look at a Doncaster card and ignore the force that is Stradivarius, after getting back to winning ways at York last time out in the Lonsdale Cup. Although he was pushed right to the line by Spanish Mission, we think the ground may not have suited him completely that day, which is why the rain can’t come soon enough to soften up the Doncaster ground. Skipping this race last season in favour of heading to France, he was the winner of this race in 2019 and is currently the odds-on favourite ahead of Trueshan to take the title once again.

Dark Horse of the Day

Prince Alex - 3:15 Doncaster

Our Dark Horse Betting Tip of the Day comes from Michael Bell’s yard in the form of Prince Alex. Still only a four-year-old, he enjoyed positive form before switching from Ralph Beckett winning at York, Haydock and Leicester. His first run for his new trainer resulted in a victory in the Summer Handicap, where he won in the hands of Rossa Ryan, priced 13/2. He’ll be partnered by the same jockey again, although he’ll only be 5/1 in the betting this time.

Longshot of the Day

Mitrosonfire - 3:45 Doncaster

When it comes to handicaps of six furlongs, one of the horses to watch is Mitrosonfire. Trained by William Muir and Chris Grassick, he’s picked up two wins and a second-place finish in his last three outings, with one of them coming on Shergar Cup Day at Ascot. This seems to be his preferred distance, and if the weather offers a little give in the ground, it should only improve his chances here.
