Cheltenham Trials Betting Tips

The Cotswold Chase and The Cleeve Hurdle offer us a welcome return to Cheltenham racecourse as we look set for a day of top-class racing as we prepare for the 2020 Cheltenham Festival. Often a good telling point of who’ll head to Prestbury Park later in the year, it offers us the potential to eye up some early Cheltenham betting tips as we’ve seen many of the runners from these races go on to be successful at the Festival and win Grade One events. If you need a hand with picking your horses, take a look at our Cheltenham Trials Day racecards for all the key details about the horses running in the feature races.

Nap Of The Day

** Cheltenham 3:35 - Paisley Park @ 8/13 **

There are three Grade Two races for punters to enjoy on trials day and the top race in our opinion is the Cleeve Hurdle, and We could be treated to quite the contest here with Paisley Park and If The Cap Fits looking to make their presence felt. All of the horses have experience, but in terms of who looks the runner to beat, we’ve gone with Paisley Park. Unbeaten in his last seven runs for trainer Emma Lavelle, he’s already picked up the Long Walk Hurdle this season, and it would be a huge shock if he was defeated here. Aidan Coleman was in the saddle that day and the pair look set to make waves once again at Cheltenham.

Dark Horse Of the Day

** Cheltenham 2:25 - Slate House @ 17/2 **

Slate House and Colin Tizzard have already provided punters with an impressive win at Kempton in the Grade One Kauto Star Chase this season, so don’t be surprised to see him outperforming his odds of 17/2 here at Cheltenham. Last winning on Boxing Day, where he defeated Black Ops after travelling strongly throughout the race, he should be well-rested coming into this weekends which will give him an added benefit as it Cotswold Chase is a 1 and 1/2 furlongs longer, but if he can travel well once again and be in contention in the closing stages he is definitely one to consider.

Outsider Of the Day

** Cheltenham 3:00 - Ruthless Article @ 16/1 **

For our longshot at Cheltenham today we’ve gone with a horse that sits around 16/1 in the betting, and that’s Ruthless Article. His odds might not be astronomical, but he is stepping up in class here despite winning a Novices’ Hurdle races at Newton Abbot and Bangor earlier in the season. He’s been a consistent performer for Rebecca Curtis and we wouldn’t be surprised if he finished in the placings here.
