Champions Day History

Held annually in October, Champions Day is a recent addition to the UK horse racing calendar and is the richest day in British horse racing, drawing together six races that allow the best horses in each racing category to attempt to get their hands on one more Group 1 win.

Champions Day Betting Tips

Nap of the Day

Stradivaurius - 1:25 Ascot (Long Distance Cup)

The opening race of Champions Day is the Long Distance Cup, and our Nap of the Day Betting Tip comes in that race in the form of Stradivarius. Potentially the last time we’ll see this horse on the track, he heads to Ascot after a second-place finish in the Prix Du Cadran and a victory in the Doncaster Cup stakes. Having proven himself on all types of ground in the past, none should prove too difficult for him at Ascot, and given the fact he’s won the Gold Cup here in previous seasons, we think he’ll manage one more big game.

Darkhorse of the Day

Dragon Symbol - 2:00 Ascot (Sprint Stakes)

He may only be 9/2 in the betting, but we’re choosing Dragon Symbol as our Dark Horse of the Day in our betting tips. Having finished second on this course in the Commonwealth Cup, despite passing the post first, he continued that solid form at Newmarket, Goodwood and York. Currently rated at 115, it seems that six furlongs is his preferred distance, and he could get back to winning ways.

Longshot of the Day

The Revenant - 3:10 Ascot (Queen Elizabeth II Stakes)

We’re selecting French-trained The Revenant as our Longshot Betting Tip of the day following his second-place finish at Longchamp earlier this month. Having only featured in France at Saint-Cloud in his remaining races this season, this is his first trip to England since his win in this exact race last season. He’s a 17/2 chance here, but given the fact he’s barely run at all, we think he’ll need to pull something out of the bag here.
