Goodwood Festival Betting Tips

Goodwood Festival Betting Tips

Now that Royal Ascot and the Cheltenham Festival are well in the past, the Goodwood Festival is the highlight of the summer when it comes to horse racing. There’s 5 days of top class racing to look forward to at Glorious Goodwood and at Bet UK, we’ll be covering the full event. For each day, make sure to check back for our Goodwood Festival Betting Tips, with 3 tips for each day’s racing.

NAP Of The Day

2:25 Goodwood - Threat - 13/8

Today’s NAP for day 3 of the Goodwood Festival is Threat, the early favourite for the 2:25 Qatar Richmond Stakes. Threat has only ran a couple of times in his career, but after a second place finish in last month’s Coventry Stakes at Ascot, he is well fancied today. Before his run at Ascot came a comfortable win at Newmarket in May. He handled the step up to Group 2 racing and with another outing today, he should improve and become a horse to watch for the future.

Dark Horse Of The Day

3:35 Goodwood - Channel - 7/1

Our Dark Horse comes in the feature race of the day, as Channel runs in the Nassau Stakes. Channel is racing at Goodwood after 4 successful races over in France. His last win came in a Group 1 race at Chantilly and Channel pushed to finish strongly and win by a head. That win came at a shade over 9/1 and was his third win in a row. He’ll face the more fancied Hermosa and Medaayih today, but in my opinion, they are both too shortly priced. With two horses in and around EVS in the race, that inevitably pushes other odds out and we could take advantage with Channel at 7/1.

Longshot Of The Day

5:20 Goodwood - Pink Flamingo - 22/1

It’s a step up in class for Pink Flamingo in the last race of the day, but there’s reason to believe there might be a shock at Bet UK’s 22/1. His last outing came at Ascot last week as he finished a close second behind clear favourite ‘Texting’. He’s had plenty of experience with another 10 races already this year, but it is his form since switching trainer in April that makes Pink Flamingo an interesting choice. Since joining Michael Attwater’s yard, Pink Flamingo has finished in the top 2 in 5 of 6 races. The step up in class is an obvious test, but he handled the step from Class 5 to 4, so there might be another positive step today.

Top Jockeys and Trainers at the Goodwood Festival

While the horses are undoubtedly the stars of the Goodwood Festival, the trainers and jockeys are the ones who put in the hard work behind the scenes. At this year’s Glorious Goodwood, Frankie Dettori will be the jockey to beat. If we are looking at the biggest races of the week, Dettori is riding the favourite in most of them, which shows just how highly regarded he is by trainers around the country. Beside him, the usual pack of Ryan Moore, Oisin Murphy and Silvestre De Sousa will be hoping to pick up a few wins throughout the week.

In terms of trainers, we can’t look past John Gosden. Gosden has trained winners for every festival over the last few years and shows no signs of slowing down. He often teams up with Frankie Dettori to take home some of the biggest prizes in horse racing. Looking down the racecard and seeing the partnership of Dettori and Gosden means that you normally have a good chance of picking a winner. Joseph Patrick O’Brien, Saeed bin Suroor and A P O’Brien are other names to look out for, but don’t be surprised if a Godsen trained horse wins the majority of races.

Top Races at The Goodwood Festival

The top races each day are often at 3:35 and will be the 4th race on every day. For Tuesday, we have the Goodwood Cup Stakes. The Stakes was won easily by Stradivarius last year and we will likely see a repeat this year as Frankie Dettori looks to regain the title for John Gosden. On Wednesday, we’ve got the Sussex Stakes, which is a continuation of the British Champions series that culminates at Ascot in October. Too Darn Hot is the early favourite in that one, again backed by the duo of Dettori and Gosden. The Nassau Stakes is Thursday’s highlight and we finish with Friday’s King George Stakes and Saturday’s Lillie Langtry Stakes. The King George is likely to be the only big race that evades John Gosden, with Bataash the early favourite to win for Charles Hills.
