Bulgaria v England Euro 2020 Betting Tips
After a fairly straightforward Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, England suffered their first loss and they’ll be looking to bounce back as they head to Bulgaria on Monday. This is one of the first times that Gareth Southgate has come under criticism as England manager after a very poor defensive performance from players who also haven’t performed domestically. They should be expected to beat Bulgaria, but nothing is guaranteed in a hostile environment like this. Check out our betting tips below, and get the latest football betting odds for the UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifying with Bet UK’s online betting.
Bulgaria’s Recent Form
Last Time Out For Bulgaria
Bulgaria continued to stutter through their Euro 2020 Qualifying with a 0-0 draw away at Montenegro. Considering their recent form, it would have been a welcome point, but this Bulgaria side isn’t half as good as the teams we have seen in years gone by. Bulgaria actually had the better of the opening exchanges, with Galin Ivanov and Bozhidar Kraev both coming close before the break. In the second half, however, it was Bulgaria goalkeeper Plamen Iliev that saved his side. Montenegro finally started to play like the home side and dominated the play. Iliev made a number of top saves and survived a Montenegro attack that was hardly thwarted by his defenders. If Bulgaria are to have any chance against England, they are going to have to rely on Iliev to produce again.
England’s Recent Form
Last Time Out For England
England’s undefeated qualification record came to an end with a 2-1 loss at the Czech Republic. The Three Lions had previously gone 43 qualification games without a loss, dating back to a 2009 defeat to Ukraine. On Friday, it looked like it would be another routine win for Gareth Southgate’s side, after Harry Kane scored a penalty with just 5 minutes on the clock. The lead would only last 4 minutes as the Czech’s fought back instantly. England’s defensive partnership of Michael Keane and Harry Maguire completely left their markers, leaving Czech centre half Jakub Brenec open to bundle home the ball. After half time, Raheem Sterling came closest to restoring England’s lead, but his touch around the Czech goalkeeper was palmed away. After that, it was always the Czech’s that looked most likely to score. The inevitable came after 84 minutes, as Lukas Masopust crossed the ball in before Zdenesk Ondrasek swept the ball past Jordan Pickford. It will likely be a huge wake up call for an England side that has been mostly praised for the last 18 months. Back in 2009, they fought back with a 3-0 win over Belarus and don’t be surprised if they go out and play fast, attacking football in a very open game
Where’s The Value Bet?
If there’s any that England have done well on the international stage recently, it’s scoring goals. In just 5 Euro 2020 Qualifying matches, they’ve racked up 20 goals, an average of 4 per game. After a disappointing result in the Czech Republic, we would expect England to come out the blocks firing and try to prove a point. They have scored 5 times in a game twice already, against Montenegro and Kosovo, and we could see another 5 star performance in Bulgaria. Bulgaria’s defence is hardly world class, but it can perform well as a group at times. Obviously, they sit bottom of the group as things stand, but they only concede 2 goals an average per game and kept a clean sheet last time out. We expect England to bag a few and have gone for England to score over 3.5 goals @ 14/5 with Bet UK’s online betting.
How To Watch Bulgaria v England
Bulgaria v England will be shown live on ITV, with kick off at 7:45pm on Monday 14th October.
Bet UK’s Headline Betting Tip
As we’ve mentioned, we think England will field a full strength line up and try to prove a point against Bulgaria. They can wrap up qualification for Euro 2020 entirely with a win, and after a shock on Friday, Southgate won’t want to take any risks.
