Deadline Day Transfers
Deadline Day is one of the most hectic days in football for clubs up and down the country. The deadline being brought forward to before the season starts has not helped Premier League clubs, as they have been forced to complete deals early. All 20 Premier League clubs could easily be looking forward to improving their squad today, but some deals look more likely than others. Bet UK have taken a look at 4 of the deals that could get finalised before the 5 o'clock deadline.
Harry Maguire - Leicester to Manchester United
Harry Maguire enjoyed an incredible World Cup in Russia this summer, immediately linking him with top clubs in the Premier League. Perhaps the team most in need of centre back reinforcements is Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United. Mourinho has been after 2 new centre backs all summer, but it seems that it has been left to late this year. The Red Devils have already made 2 bids for Maguire, but Leicester are holding firm for their man. Reportedly, Maguire has asked to be able to speak to Manchester United, but it would surely take a world record bid to prise him away from the Foxes.
Yerry Mina - Barcelona to Everton
Everton have already completed the signing of one Barcelona defender this summer, but it appears as though they are going back in for one more. Yerry Mina was another centre back who had a very strong World Cup, scoring a remarkable 3 goals from defence. Mina only joined Barcelona in January, playing 5 games last season. The 23 year old wasn’t given enough of a chance at club level last year, but shone on the international stage. If he can replicate his World Cup form for the Toffees, then Everton fans are in for a treat.
Toby Alderweireld - Tottenham Hotspur to Manchester United
Another centre back that has been linked with Manchester United all summer, Alderweireld could be making the move up north. The Belgian’s contract at Tottenham runs out next summer, with Daniel Levy hoping to get some money for him before he is free to negotiate with other clubs in January. Since his loan move to Southampton, Alderweireld has consistently been one of the strongest players in the league. At 29 years old, and with some injury problems, it remains to be seen how many much longer Alderweireld can remain a top class centre half. But if he remains fit, then he will undoubtedly improve Manchester United’s defence.
Jack Grealish - Aston Villa to Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham are the only club in the Premier League, and the Champions League, yet to sign a player. Daniel Levy is well known for last minute deals in the transfer window, but he will really need to pull something out the bag to please Spurs fans this summer. One player who has been linked with a move all summer is Aston Villa winger Jack Grealish. Grealish has been linked with a move ever since Villa got relegated to the Championship, but has stayed for regular football. £40m has been the reported price for Grealish, with Tottenham reportedly already having made a bid. Villa have stood firm and claimed that Grealish won’t be going anywhere, but expect this one to go to the wire.
