Premier League Darts Betting Tips & Preview: Night 5 - Aberdeen
Just a few weeks after gracing Glasgow, the Premier League Darts is back in Scotland as 10 of the World’s best darting heroes head to Aberdeen. The big story this week is how will the reigning Premier League and World Champion Michael van Gerwen react to some shock defeats over the last 7 days.
The downhill slope all started as he was completely outplayed by James Wade in Exeter last Thursday, suffering a 7-3 defeat. Then, the UK Open seemed to come a bit too soon after that loss, as he again fell this time in a shocker to Mervyn King in the last 32, a tournament MVG went into as massive favourite. This week in the Premier League, he takes on ‘Highlander’ John Henderson, who will have the crowd firmly behind him.
Rob Cross takes on Michael Smith too, in a match that both players will be looking at as a must win.
Here are our darts betting tips for The 2019 Premier League Darts Night 5 in Aberdeen.
Premier League Darts Tips
Where Is The Value?
Gerwyn Price is in the form of his life at the moment, going on an incredible run in the last few weeks. Leading up to last week’s Premier League Darts contest against Luke Humphries, “The Iceman” had won 14 matches in a row. Though he will have been disappointed not to win that game too, he kept his unbeaten run intact with a 6-6 draw. That run was then extended to 19 matches with a solid run to the semi-finals of the UK Open.
Price was edged out by eventual champion Nathan Aspinall on that occasion, but to go that many matches unbeaten in this day and age really is a huge achievement considering the standard he is playing against. Mensur Suljovic got a big win against Peter Wright last week that moved him up to 5th in the table, but we fancy Gerwyn Price’s excellent form to continue in Aberdeen. He can be backed at darts odds of 13/10*.
Other Premier League Darts Betting Predictions - Night Five:
Michael Smith vs Rob Cross
Rob Cross is finally starting to play somewhere near the level that saw him win the 2018 World Darts Championship after a prolonged slump. “Voltage” currently sits 3rd in the Premier League table and has put in some solid performances. Last week in Exeter he destroyed Daryl Gurney 7-1, and then took that momentum into the UK Open, where he reached the final but eventually ran out of steam. His opponent Michael Smith will be massively disappointed with his start, only winning one of his first four matches. Bet UK believe that form is on the side of Rob Cross here at darts betting odds of 27/20*.
Daryl Gurney vs James Wade
James Wade has always been a player that backs his own ability. He believes he can beat anyone in the world on his day and this was proven in the most spectacular fashion possible last Thursday in Exeter when he dismantled Michael van Gerwen in front of a delighted crowd. It has been a great few months for Wade, even with a few slip-ups along the way. A couple of TV titles and some huge wins have meant that the James Wade of old is well and truly back. As mentioned earlier, Gurney had a shocker of a result last week and may be the victim of momentum here.
Raymond van Barneveld vs Peter Wright
It has all gone wrong for Raymond van Barneveld over the last year or so. It seems as if a long and illustrious 35-year career is beginning to catch up with the great Dutchman, and he is being outclassed on a weekly basis at this stage. Early exits from other tournaments have not helped his Premier League Darts form, and Barney has struggled his way to the bottom of the table. He took to Twitter to state that he wishes to prove the doubters wrong, but with the way he has been playing we can’t tip him for a victory here. Peter Wright should have too much for his opponent and the World number 3 could find his way back into the play-off places with a win.
Michael van Gerwen vs John Henderson
This should be quite the occasion, as Scottish favourite John Henderson steps in as this week’s “Contender”. The Aberdeen crowd will be 100% behind the man known as “Highlander” but against the best player on the planet he will have his work cut out. Henderson has defeated MVG in a big tournament before, knocking him out of the 2017 World Grand Prix. Van Gerwen will be absolutely desperate to put things right though after a torrid week, and Henderson could well feel the brunt of his fury. MVG does not take kindly to being embarrassed as he was last week and will do all he can to make sure he takes the 2 points this time around.
