Players Championship Finals Darts Betting Tips & Preview

The darts action continues to come thick and fast at this time of year, with the World Championship just around the corner. Fresh from a Grand Slam of Darts that was dominated by Gerwyn Price as he retained his title, we head to Minehead for the Players Championship Finals. The Welshman enters the tournament as top seed due to his performance at the 30 Players Championship events across the year. He, along with many of the usual top players, will be competing for a trophy that was won by Daryl Gurney in 2018 - ‘Superchin’s’ second major PDC crown. Kicking off on Friday 22nd November and reaching a conclusion two days later, the competition promises to offer a lot of fast paced action for fans of the sport to get stuck into. Find out who we are backing to come out on top, as Bet UK’s resident tipster returns with his thoughts on proceedings.

Here are our darts betting tips for the 2019 Players Championship Finals.

Outright Players Championship Finals Tip

TIP: Gerwyn Price To Win Outright - 13/2

We’ve gone with Price as our tip to win the Players Championship at darts betting odds of 13/2. As previously stated, ‘The Iceman’ was in great form on his way to the Grand Slam of Darts last week, with his first victory against Michael Van Gerwen at the twentieth attempt sure to fill him with confidence heading into this tournament. His 107.86 average in the final against Wright was also impressive and victory there saw the welshman rise to third in the world rankings. With him being first seed here he has a favourable draw on paper - especially compared to some of the other favourites for the tournament. If he continues his recent form we can see him making it back to back major darts titles on consecutive weekends, which would provide the perfect preparation for the World Championship. You could also consider backing him each way (½ odds, 1-2 places), as this would provide a profit should he reach the final.

Outside Chance Tip

TIP: Daryl Gurney To Win Outright E/W (½ odds, 1-2 places) - 22/1

For our outside chance tip this week we’ve gone for the defending champion Daryl Gurney. The Northern Irishman is in the fourth section of the draw and will probably fancy his chances of at least reaching the semifinals. ‘Superchin’ is in decent form and has three last four appearances at major events this year, including the recent European Championships. With players such as Michael Smith and Martin Schindler featuring in his quarter, he won’t have it easy in Minehead, but he is capable of beating anyone on his day and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him reach the final here. You can back him at darts odds of 22/1 to win outright, although an each way bet will again provide a profit should he be in the final two.

Selected Opening Matches Darts Betting Tips

We’re now going to preview three highlight matches in the first round, but with 67 matches scheduled in the space of three days, be sure to check our darts betting markets on a regular basis during the tournament.

Mensur Suljovic (16) v Kim Huybrechts (49)

TIP: Mensur Suljovic 6-4 Kim Huybrechts Final Score - 9/2

The first match in our preview features 2017 Champions League of Darts winner Mensur Suljovic and heading into the weekend ‘The Gentle’ is joint eighth favourite to win the tournament outright. We were tempted to put him down as our outside chance tip given his slightly more favourable draw when compared to some of the other contenders before opting for Gurney. The Austrian arrow thrower may have failed to qualify for the Grand Slam of Darts, but he performed well on his way to the semifinals of the World Series of Darts Finals a week earlier, returning to the sort of form that saw him make four semifinals in 2018. He opens his bid for victory in Minehead against former Premier League player Kim Huybrechts. ‘The Hurricane’ Huybrechts reached the final of this tournament in 2012 and should provide a stern test of Suljovic’s title credentials. We could see this being close and, with the current head to head 5-4 in Suljovic’s favour, the recent form book tends to agree. As a result, we’ve gone for Suljovic to win 6-4 in this best of 11 legs encounter and it is available at odds of 9/2.

Dimitri Van den Bergh (25) vs Stephen Bunting (40)

TIP: Most 180s in the Match: Dimitri Van den Bergh - 11/10

This is another opening round match that is likely to be close, as the 2017 and 2018 World Youth Champion Dimitri Van den Bergh takes on the 2014 BDO World Champion Stephen Bunting. The seedings may be in favour of the Belgian Van den Bergh, but Bunting actually leads the head to head between the players, including two best of 11 legs victories in 2019. We could see this going either way, but it is worth noting that even in defeat Van den Bergh hit more 180s than ‘The Bullet’ in those two matches. This leads us to thinking darts odds of 11/10 for him to have the most 180s may be worth considering.

Nathan Aspinall (12) v Raymond Van Barneveld (53)

TIP: Raymond Van Barneveld To Win - 13/10

The final match we’ve picked out in our preview is in our opinion the highlight of the opening matches, as Nathan Aspinall faces former World Champion Raymond Van Barneveld. Aspinall can probably consider 2019 his breakthrough year on the PDC tour. In addition to a semifinal appearance on his debut at the World Championship, ‘The Asp’ also claimed the first major title of his career at the UK Open, a tournament which is coincidentally held at the same venue as this one. The Englishman will probably be hoping for a similar result here, but with an opening match against Van Barneveld, he will likely face a tough opponent to start his tournament.

‘Barney’ is planning to retire after the World Championship next month and can complete his collection of semifinal appearances or better in major PDC events by reaching the last four here. Whatever happens between now and the end of the Dutchman's career, he can be proud of his achievements in the game, with his 2007 World Championship Final win against Taylor perhaps one of the highlights in the history of the sport. As for this match, we’ve gone for Van Barneveld to upset the seedings and win at darts betting odds of 13/10. The only previous encounter between these two went the way of ‘Barney’ and we wouldn’t be surprised if he maintained that 100% record.
