Champions League Of Darts Betting Preview

The Champions League of Darts gets underway on Saturday 22nd September with the event set to start with a bang. Eight of the world’s greatest darts players will convene at the Brighton Centre for a tournament that became an instant hit in its first incarnation back in 2016. The Champions League of Darts will be screened live on the BBC across Saturday and Sunday, so all can follow the darting action as it happens.

Austrian sensation Mensur Suljovic is the defending champion after overcoming the Flying Scotsman Gary Anderson 11-9 in last year’s action packed final. In order to get his hands on the trophy yet again, Suljovic will need to overcome reigning World Darts Champion Rob Cross, Peter Wright and Simon Whitlock in the group stage.

The other group consists of the World Number 1 Michael van Gerwen, World Matchplay Champion Gary Anderson, World Grand Prix winner Daryl Gurney and the extremely talented Dave Chisnall.

But who could win this two day tournament? Here are the current darts betting odds at Bet UK for the Champions League of Darts.

Champions League Of Darts Odds

Michael Van Gerwen Odds - 20/23*

As with pretty much every tournament he enters, Michael van Gerwen will go into the Champions League of Darts as the darts betting favourite. In the outright market here at Bet UK, he is currently 20/23* to win the tournament.

Though Mighty Mike is usually in imperious form, tread with a little bit of caution if you’re considering backing him for a number of reasons. Firstly, this will be incredibly competitive with the best players on the planet challenging him. As well as that, it’s not been a perfect year for the Dutchman, going out in round one in a couple of tournaments.

That being said, MVG has had major tournament victories in both The Masters and The Premier League throughout 2018, so he is very much still the man to beat. Van Gerwen’s first test is Dave Chisnall, with the World Number 1 a 2/25* shot to claim an early victory.

Gary Anderson Odds - 4/1*

Gary Anderson has had a fantastic 2018, winning a number of major darts tournaments. This includes the UK Open and the World Matchplay, after victories against Corey Cadby and Mensur Suljovic in those respective finals. The former back to back Champion of the World has been immense for a number of years, and he seems to be getting better with age.

Anderson heads into the Champions League of Darts as a 4/1* shot with Bet UK’s online sportsbook in the Outright market, and that looks to be good value considering the form the Flying Scotsman has been in recently.

Our darts betting tips suggest that Anderson to reach the final at odds of 6/4* may be worth a look. His quality is likely to bring him through the group stage as one of the top two in Group A, and considering he would avoid Michael van Gerwen in the semi-final, he should go into that his last four match as favourite.

Rob Cross Odds - 6/1*

It has been a bit of a whirlwind eighteen months for Rob Cross. Since reaching the last 16 of the UK Open in March 2017 as a relative unknown, the former electrician has gone from strength to strength. His previous career earned him the nickname ‘Voltage’, and Cross has been electrifying the PDC Tour ever since his arrival.

The upward curve of Cross’ career culminated at the 2018 PDC World Darts Championship, as the Hastings thrower shocked the world by defeating Michael van Gerwen in incredibly dramatic fashion at the semi-final stage, before beating the legendary 16-time World Champ Phil Taylor in what was to be The Power’s last ever professional darts match.

For the Champions League of Darts, Cross is the third favourite to lift the trophy at 6/1*. The World Championship remains Cross’ only major tournament victory, and although it is the holy grail of darts, the fact he’s not won a major since would have many that offer darts tips suggesting to look at other avenues.

Peter Wright Odds - 29/4*

After a stellar 2017, things seem to have slowed down a little bit for Peter Wright. There have been no major finals for Snakebite this year, which will be something the mohawked maverick will be looking to put right as soon as possible. A victory in the Melbourne Darts Masters has kept things ticking over, a result that has helped keep Wright 2nd in the PDC Order of Merit.

Snakebite will head to Brighton for the opening day of the Champions League of Darts with outright odds of 29/4* with Bet UK’s sports betting feature. Though his form has not been the best, it is clear that Wright has the ability to beat anyone on his day. He does tend to struggle against MVG in particular, so if Wright manages to avoid that particular matchup he may offer good value.

Peter Wright’s opening contest on Saturday afternoon will be against Simon Whitlock, where the Scotsman will be a big 10/31* favourite. The Brighton crowd are likely to be behind the colourful entertainer Wright too, which may help him through the tournament.

Best Of The Rest - Darts Betting Odds

Defending champion Mensur Suljovic starts his search for back to back Champions League of Darts titles with Outright odds of 11/1*. The Austrian is one of the toughest players on the circuit to play against due to his slow and methodical style, so no-one is going to have an easy ride against him. Dave Chisnall has come back into a bit of form after a rough spell, and he is currently 33/1* to take home the title. Chizzy is a big 180 hitter, and if he nails his doubles the man from St Helens could have a very profitable weekend indeed.

The outsiders according to the Bet UK online sportsbook begin at Daryl Gurney, currently 40/1* to nail another major tournament win to follow on from his sensational 2017 World Grand Prix victory. The Northern Irishman has the talent, but he will need to outlast seven world class players. Rounding out the field is Simon Whitlock, who can be backed at current odds of 65/1*. The Aussie Wizard has had a great resurgence in 2018 and could cause a shock or two in Brighton.
