Champions League Betting Tips
After last week’s Champions League action, the remainder of the Round of 16 ties get underway this week. There are another 2 English teams in action as well, as Chelsea host Bayern Munich, and Manchester City face a tough trip to Real Madrid. Remember to head over to Bet UK’s football betting markets, where you can bet on the Champions League with odds available for all matches this week. Chelsea are into the knockout rounds of the Champions League for the first time in 2 years as they face Bayern Munich. Frank Lampard’s side got out of a difficult group that featured Valencia, Lille and Ajax, finishing second behind Valencia. Bayern had an easier group, walking to 6 wins out of 6 without any trouble. One thing that both sides had in common was a large amount of goals in their Group Stage games. Bayern Munich beat Spurs 7-2 and Chelsea drew 4-4 with Ajax in the highlights of their group stage games. In total, the sides averaged 4 goals per game throughout the Group Stage, so goals should be expected at Stamford Bridge. 29/20 looks a good price for over 3.5 goals, especially given the record of both sides.
A few seasons ago, this would have been an unmissable Champions League tie. But, with both sides well below their best this season, it’ll probably be a pretty standard game. Under Gennaro Gattuso, Napoli are 6th in Serie A and 24 points off the pace at the top. Yet in the Champions League, they were unbeaten in their group and even beat Liverpool at home. For Barcelona, their standard was so high that although they aren’t playing well, they are still 2 points clear at the top of La Liga. One of Barcelona’s problems has been relying too much on their talisman - Lionel Messi. When Messi doesn’t play well, Barcelona don’t play well. At the weekend, Messi finally ended the longest goal scoring drought of the last 6 years with a first half hat trick against Eibar. With Messi playing himself back into form, we wouldn’t put it past him to add to his 2 Champions League goals in Napoli on Tuesday.
When Manchester City travel to Real Madrid on Wednesday, it will be just the 5th time that the two sides have met. So far, Real Madrid have dominated proceedings with 2 wins and 2 draws, leaving City without a win. As things are going this season for City, it’s tough to see the result being any different this time around. Although City got through the Group Stage unbeaten, they were unconvincing in a very straightforward group. Even in the league this year, Pep Guardiola’s side look a shadow of the one that has dominated England for the last 2 years. Real Madrid themselves are having a strange season. Failing to beat Club Brugge at home and losing to PSG was hardly an ideal start to their Champions League campaign. Yet, Real have only lost 4 of their 36 competitive games this season and look hard to beat. With all that being said, we are backing Real again in the double chance market. So, if Real win or if the match ends as a draw, then the bet will win.
