Champions League Group C B Betting Preview

Champions League Group C Betting Preview

Along with Group B, Group C is another group that could arguably be described as the group of death. Last season’s Champions League runners up face 2 of the most exciting, attacking teams in Europe. Carlo Ancelotti will also return to face Liverpool, who famously came back from 3-0 down to win the Champions League against his AC Milan side. Group C could provide the most exciting games of the whole tournament, never mind the group stages. Bet UK have looked ahead at all 4 teams in Group C, as well as bringing you the latest Champions League betting tips and odds.

Bet UK's Boost for tonight is Liverpool, PSG and Atletico Madrid to win at 11/2*.

Liverpool - 11/1* to win the Champions League

How They Qualified

Liverpool finished 4th last season in the Premier League and were automatically entered into this year’s group stage. Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino formed one of the deadliest trio’s in world football as Liverpool quickly became the neutral’s favourite team to watch. Their finish in the Premier League might have been higher if not for their Champions League campaign. Liverpool beat Manchester City, Porto and giant killers Roma on their way to Kiev. A couple of Loris Karius mistakes and a Gareth Bale wonder goal proved too much for the Reds though.

Best Champions League Campaign

There is no doubt that the 2005 Champions League final will go down as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever matches. 3-0 down at half time to a dominating AC Milan side, Rafa Benitez inspired his Liverpool side to come back and finish the game 3-3. Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Vladimir Smicer scored 3 goals in 6 minutes to completely turn the game on it’s head. The game eventually went to penalties, with Jerzy Dudek performing heroics to save shots from Pirlo and Shevchenko. Shevchenko’s miss handed Liverpool the Champions League trophy and capped off a legendary night in Istanbul. Winning Group C would give Liverpool the best chance of repeating their feat of 2005.

Liverpool to win Group C is currently 7/5* with Bet UK’s online sportsbook.

Star Player

Mo Salah - When Mohammed Salah joined Liverpool in 2017, no one expected him to have the impact that he did. The Egyptian King broke all sorts of goalscoring records last season, including scoring 32 goals in just 38 games. His Champions League record was just as impressive. In 15 Champions League games, Salah scored 11 goals to take Liverpool to Kiev and face Real Madrid. If he continues that form this season, Liverpool could go one step further.

PSG - 15/2* to win the Champions League

How They Qualified

After Monaco stole the Ligue 1 crown in 2017, PSG took it back in style last year. Mbappe, Neymar and Cavani formed an attacking threat to rival any as PSG amasses 93 points. Even more impressive than their gigantic points total, PSG managed to score 108 goals. In the Champions League, PSG still faltered however. Against Real Madrid, PSG were truly tested and again failed to get past the round of 16. European success is clearly the target for PSG this season.

Best Champions League Campaign

PSG have struggled to truly perform in the Champions League, even after their takeover. But, there most impressive performances in the competition were in 2015/16. PSG made the quarter finals that year, defeating English Champions Chelsea in the round of 16. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored in both legs as PSG won 2-1 both home and away. This was the first time that Les Parisiens had truly dominated a top European side. Even in the quarter-finals, PSG drew with Manchester City and only lost 3-2 on aggregate. It may not be a clear high point, but can certainly be looked back on as the best recent campaign.

Star Player

Kylian Mbappe - The French youngster is already regarded as one of the best players in the world at just 19 years old. When Neymar moved to PSG, it was rumoured that he was sick of being in Messi’s shadow. But at PSG, he may now be in M’bappes. After his record breaking World Cup, Mbappe has scored 4 goals in 3 games in Ligue 1 and he continues to shine.

Mbappe is 16/1* to be Champions League top scorer this season at Bet UK’s online sportsbook.

Napoli - 50/1* to win the Champions League

How They Qualified

Napoli came agonisingly close to winning Serie A for the first time in 29 years. The Naples side were top at the end of February, but a run of only 2 wins from 6 gave Juventus the advantage. A 1-0 win at Juventus gave Napoli hope late on in the season, but the pressure clearly got to Sarri’s side. In Europe, Napoli failed to qualify from their Champions League group, dropping into the Europa League. Their Europa League campaign was just as unsuccessful however, as they were knocked out in the round of 32 against RB Leipzig.

Bet UK’s sports betting is offering odds of 13/10* for Napoli to qualify from Group C.

Best Champions League Campaign

Napoli have only progressed out of their Champions League group twice, once in 2011/12 and again in 2016/17. 2011/12 was the more impressive run, and the closest Napoli have came to reaching the quarter finals. Drawn in a group with Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Villarreal, Napoli finished 2nd. This included a win against Manchester City and only losing once during their 6 matches. In the round of 16, Napoli faced Chelsea and raced into a 3-1 win in the first leg. In the second leg, only a 105th minute Branislav Ivanovic finish denied Napoli a deserved aggregate win. Chelsea went on to win the Champions League and continued miraculous comebacks, perhaps making Napoli’s defeat easier to swallow.

Star Player

Dries Mertens - The Belgian striker has been a mainstay of the Napoli attack for the last few years. In the last 2 season, Mertens has scored 56 goals, following his switch from winger to central striker. Mertens is known for his pace, trickery and ability to finish from all areas, making him a dangerous and difficult player to mark.

Red Star Belgrade - 750/1* to win the Champions League

How They Qualified

Red Star Belgrade dominated the Serbian league last year, only losing 1 domestic game all season. The Serbian league places the top 5 teams in a Championship play off round at the conclusion of the season. Red Star still won all 7 games during the Championship Play Off, proving they are Serbia’s top side. This season, they had to overcome 4 play off rounds to reach the group stage, beating teams from Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Austria.

Best Champions League Campaign

There is no doubt of Red Star Belgrade’s best Champions League success. In 1991, Red Star defied all odds by winning the European Cup, defeating some strong teams along the way. Rangers, Dynamo Dresden and Bayern Munich all failed to stop Red Star on their road to European Cup victory. Red Star even managed to impressively defeat Bayern Munich at the Olympiastadion in the semi final. The final against Marseille will not be remembered for the actual game, but rather for the result. A 0-0 draw took the game to penalties, with Red Star eventually winning 5-3.

Red Star Belgrade are 20/1* to qualify from Group C at Bet UK’s online sportsbook.

Star Player

Richmond Boakye - Boakye is currently enjoying his second spell at Red Star Belgrade, following a bizzare 6 month spell in China. The Ghanaian scored 27 goals in 2017 to become Red Star’s highest ever foreign goalscorer, before a £5 million move to Jiangsu Suning in January 2018. Just 6 months later, Boakye signed for Red Star for £1.5m to lead the line again. Once on the books at Juventus, Boakye has played for a number of Italian clubs but now appears to be settled in Belgrade.
