Champions League Betting Tips
We’re into the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 and with Tottenham already knocked out, it’s up to Liverpool to make sure that England is still represented in the quarter finals. There’s also a huge clash between PSG and Borussia Dortmund to keep us entertained. Remember to head over to Bet UK’s football betting markets, where you can bet on the Champions League with odds available for all matches this week.
PSG v Borussia Dortmund - 8:00pm 11th March - Le Parc Des Princes
Following Barcelona and Valencia, PSG v Dortmund will also be played in an empty stadium on Wednesday night. That is bound to have an effect on the players, especially on a night when PSG need all the support they can get. They come into the second leg 2-1 down on aggregate, so a win is vital. Since the first leg, PSG have actually come into some decent form. Despite Neymar getting suspended, PSG have won their last 2 games and scored 8 goals. As with other countries around Europe, their season has been disrupted by the coronavirus, so it will be interesting to see how well prepared PSG are.
For Dortmund, it has been business as usual in the Bundesliga. Their matches have gone ahead as usual and like PSG, they are in a rich vein of form. Since hosting the Parisiens, Dortmund have won 3 games, conceding just once. Those results were all against European football chasing sides in the Bundesliga. Erling Haaland’s goalscoring rampage has calmed down a bit, with the youngster now two games without a goal. With that being said, Haaland’s performance in the first leg was something to admire. 2 goals, including an incredible finish for his second, prove that he is up for the biggest occasion. If Dortmund are to get a goal tonight, it will come from him.
Liverpool v Atletico Madrid - 8:00pm 11th March - Anfield
Despite Liverpool reaching the Champions League final for the last two years, their defence of the title is in threat against Atletico Madrid. In the first leg, Liverpool failed to register a single shot on target as Atletico shut up shop. Although the ‘famous Anfield atmosphere’ will get behind Liverpool, they haven’t come up against a side so defensively sound in a long time. Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane will all likely start, along with Divock Origi waiting in the wings. But, they will need to be at their very best in order to break down Diego Simeone’s side.
A 1-0 win for Atletico in the first led was as typical an Atletico performance as we have come to expect under Simeone. His side grabbed an early goal from Saul and from then, Atletico were happy to sit back and defend. They did catch Liverpool a couple of times on the counter attack and reminded us that they can be a dangerous side. Expect a carbon copy performance in the second leg. A strong start from Atletico when they will try to get an early away goal, followed by 80+ minutes of defending. If any side can go to Anfield and defend a lead, it’ll be Atletico Madrid. Because of that, we are going to back under 1.5 goals in what should be a cagey affair at Anfield.
