Champions League Betting Tips
We’re past the halfway stage in the Champions League now and the groups are starting to take shape. No team is officially ruled out of qualification, but losses across Europe could see some Champions League dreams ended this week. The fixtures this week are the reverse of the fixtures from Gameweek 3, so they may seem familiar but there will be some key differences.
Remember to head over to our football betting markets, where you can bet on the Champions League with odds available for all matches this week. We’ve boosted this week’s treble of Chelsea, Dortmund and Napoli to win from 13/2, to 15/2 over at Bet UK’s online betting.
Chelsea have quickly become one of the most exciting teams in Europe to watch. Frank Lampard has turned his old side from mostly unlikeable, to a side full of young talent that just wants to attack. There is still a worry however, that Chelsea aren’t very strong defensively. Even with more experience at the back, clean sheets have been hard to come by at Stamford Bridge.
Ajax have started the season just as they finished it last year. Even after losing Matias De Ligt and Frenkie De Jong, Ajax are blowing teams away both domestically and in Europe. They’ve only lost one game so far this season, but that loss came against Chelsea. In Amsterdam 2 weeks ago, Ajax just couldn’t break Chelsea down and arguably should have lost by more than 1. Chelsea seem to have their number and a home win should be straightforward.
Since Dortmund lost to Inter Milan in the last gameweek, they’ve started to see some stability in Germany. They’ve beaten table-toppers Borussia Monchengladbach, survived a hostile derby against Schalke and handed Wolfsburg their first defeat of the season. With no team looking like they want to win the Bundesliga, Dortmund have stepped up and look like taking control.
Inter have hardly struggled since they played Dortmund, but their Champions League away form is a worry. Since coming back to the Champions League last year, they have lost 3 away games from 4. That does include 2 games away at Barcelona, and a trip away at Spurs, but Dortmund are at a similar level to both of those sides. There are few places tougher to visit than the Westfalstadion so Dortmund should edge a tight game.
Napoli haven’t been perfect in Serie A this year but the Champions League has often been a stage where they step up. Particularly at the San Paolo, Napoli are a force to be reckoned with. In the last 2 years, they have beaten Liverpool twice and held PSG to a draw. Carlo Ancelotti is a manager with huge success in the Champions League and he could see this year as a real chance to win his 3rd European trophy.
RB Salzburg have been one of the surprise packages of the Champions League this season, thanks to striker Erling Haaland. The young Norwegian has attracted attention from around the world after scoring 21 goals in 14 matches this season, including a hattrick on his Champions League debut. Whilst Haaland dominates the forward line, Salzburg are still poor defensively. They could easily grab a goal at Napoli, but they will struggle massively coming up against the likes of Dries Mertens, Lorenzo Insigne and Arkadiusz Milik.
