European Champions Cup Rugby Betting Preview

European Champions Cup Rugby Betting Preview

The European Champions Cup is back this weekend, as the best teams from around Europe aim to get to the final at St James’ Park in May 2019. Last year’s champions Leinster kick off proceedings in Dublin against London Wasps. The last 3 winners of the Champions Cup have all retained the trophy the following year, which explains why Leinster are 39/20* betting favourites ahead of the tournament.

Leinster v Wasps - Friday 12th October at 7:45pm

Last year’s champions kick off the Champions Cup at home, as Leinster take on London Wasps in Dublin. Leinster have kicked on from last season’s success, currently topping the PRO14 with just one loss from 6. Wasps’ have had an impressive start to the season as well, with 4 wins putting them 3rd in the Gallagher Premiership. Wasps’ defence will be the worry against free-scoring Leinster however, with Wasps having one of the worst defensive records in the top 8.

Bet UK’s Rugby Betting Tips

Leinster to win and -15.5 Handicap - 10/13*

Leinster will be looking to get off to a comfortable start against Wasps, before a tough trip to Toulouse next week.

Bath v Toulouse - Saturday 13th October at 1:00pm

The other match in Pool 1 sees Bath take on 4 times Champions Cup winners Toulouse. Toulouse are back in the competition after a one season absence and will be looking at the Bath match as a chance to get some early points on the board. Bath have endured a mixed start to the season, with 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 wins putting them in 8th place in the Gallagher Premiership. In the last 6 meetings between the sides, the home side has won just once, a fact that Bath will be hoping to put to bed on Saturday.

Bet UK’s Rugby Betting Tips

Bath to win - 20/31*

Bath should take the victory to spoil Toulouse’s return to the Champions Cup.

Exeter v Munster - Saturday 13th October at 3:15pm

Exeter are the in-form team in the Gallagher Premiership, with 6 wins out of 6 putting them top of the table. Last year, Exeter failed to get out of the pools after a tough draw, but a revitalised Chiefs should advance this year. Munster will likely be their closest competitor, making this a must win game for both teams. Last year’s semi finalists will be hoping for a strong start and go one better this year.

Exeter to win - 15/18*

Montpellier v Edinburgh - Saturday 13th October at 3:15pm

Montpellier will be hoping to carry on their good early season form against Edinburgh on Saturday. The French side have won their last 3 games in a row, only finishing on the losing side once this season. Montpellier are the second highest scoring team in the Top 14, so Edinburgh’s defence will need to be on form. The Gunners have faced a tough start, but have still managed 3 wins so far. If they are to get a result in France though, they will need to improve.

Bet UK’s Rugby Betting Tips

Montpellier to win - 1/10*

The French side should have too much quality for Edinburgh and we expect a simple victory.

Ulster v Leicester - Saturday 13th October at 5:30pm

Ulster will be looking to bounce back from a poor winless run with a win against Leicester. Ulster lost 22-15 to Irish rivals Connach on Saturday, their second loss in a row after a 64-7 battering from Munster. On the other hand, Leicester have recovered from a difficult start to win their last 2 games. 3 losses in their first 4 showed signs of a difficult season in the midlands, but victories against Sale and Northampton have pushed them into 5th position.

Bet UK’s Rugby Betting Tips

Leicester to win - 23/20*

Leicester should be able to take advantage of Ulster’s poor start to the season and claim a victory.

Scarlets v Racing 92 - Saturday 13th October at 5:30pm

Last season’s losing finalists head to Scarlets as they attempt to take that next step and take home the Champions Cup. The French side haven’t quite been as dominant this season as they were last, with 4 wins from their first 7 games. Scarlets have started their Pro 14 season strongly, currently sitting in 2nd place in Conference B. Scarlets reached the semi final last year, so this could be one of the closest matches of the opening weekend.

Bet UK’s Rugby Betting Tips

Scarlets to win - 2/3*

Home advantage should just tip this one in Scarlets favour in what will be a close fought affair.

Gloucester v Castres - Sunday 14th October at 1:00pm

Gloucester host the current Top 14 champions in their opening game of the Champions Cup campaign. Castres shocked the Top 14 last year after finishing 6th and still managing to take home the title after the play off rounds. Gloucester are back in the Champions Cup and will be looking to get off a good start. In the league, Gloucester have started strongly with 3 wins and a loss. A 35-12 win away at London Wasps puts them in good stead heading into the Champions Cup.

Gloucester to win and -12 Handicap - 20/27*

Lyon v Cardiff Blues - Sunday 14th October at 1:00pm

Lyon and Cardiff played each other at this stage of the Challenge Cup last season, with the Welsh side finishing 21-18 winners. Cardiff went on to win the Challenge Cup and will be relishing the step up in quality this season. Lyon improved their league form dramatically last season, finishing 15 points better off that they did the previous year. The French side have started this season off in the same fashion, but come up against a tough outfit in Cardiff.

Bet UK’s Rugby Betting Tips

Cardiff to Win - 59/20*

Both sides have improved since the teams met last year, but Cardiff can use their experience of previous wins to come out victorious.

Glasgow v Saracens - Sunday 14th October at 3:15pm

Glasgow and Saracens are 2 of the most in form teams coming into the European Champions Cup. Glasgow have started off their PRO 14 Campaign with 5 wins, their only loss so far coming at the Southern Kings at the end of last month. Already top of Conference A by 7 points, it looks like it will be tough to stop the Warriors this year. Saracens however, have started just as strongly. 6 straight victories are the ideal preparation for a competition that Saracens are known to thrive in. Saracens will be hoping for a 3rd Champions Cup win in just 4 years.

Bet UK’s Rugby Betting Tips

Saracens to Win - 2/7*

Both teams come into the match in form, but this could be a reality check for the Glasgow Warriors.

Toulon v Newcastle - Sunday 14th October at 3:15pm

Newcastle Falcons will be hoping for a short journey to the Champions Cup final at St James’ Park, but there is a long way to go before then. They start their first Champions Cup campaign in 14 years with a tough trip to Toulon. A change in scenery might be welcomed however after a turgid start to their Premiership season. Toulon will be looking to take advantage of the Falcons’ poor start. The French side haven’t started as well as they would have liked, but everyone in rugby knows that Toulon are capable of more than they are currently showing in the Top 14.

Bet UK’s Rugby Betting Tips

Toulon to Win - 1/9*
