Carabao Cup Betting Boost

Stoke City v Gillingham - 19:00, Wednesday 23rd September

Stoke come into this match on the back of a remarkable 1-0 win away at Wolves in Round 2. Despite Wolves playing plenty of first team players, the game was hardly a classic. Both goalkeepers only had a save to make each during the match, as defence clearly came out on top. That arguably suited Stoke, who have been set up well since Michael O’Neill’s appointment last year. With the game heading to penalties, substitute Jacob Brown scored a late winner to set up a tie with Gillingham. The draw has been kind to Gillingham so far, pitting them against League 2 Southend and an out of form Coventry side. This will be their first proper test, and it’s likely one they will fail.

Fulham v Sheffield Wednesday - 19:00, Wednesday 23rd September

After a disappointing start to the Premier League season, Fulham have a perfect chance to boost morale against Sheffield Wednesday. Scott Parker named almost a full strength side in Round 2 against Ipswich, showing how much he values these competitions. Aleksandar Mitrovic scored the only goal in that game, rising with a powerful header in the first half. As the game wore on, Fulham clearly took it easy and just tried to get through the match without incident. Tonight, they face a Sheffield Wednesday side who will definitely want to focus on their Championship campaign. They started with a 10 point deduction, and will want to wipe that clean as soon as possible. Don’t be surprised to see a weak side from Wednesday and a Fulham whitewash.

Millwall v Burnley - 19:00, Wednesday 23rd September

After knocking out Premier League Sheffield United, Burnley were rewarded with a trip to Championship Millwall. It was an even game at Turf Moor, eventually going all the way to penalties after Matej Vydra’s equaliser. It was Burnley’s first competitive match of the season after a delayed Premier League start, but now, we can expect Sean Dyche’s side to be a lot fitter. They will play Millwall tonight, who have had the luck of the draw so far. They’ve played two League 2 sides in Crawley and Cheltenham, easily winning both as expected. But, this should easily be the end of the line for a low scoring Millwall side, against a defensively sound Burnley side.
