Blackpool v Arsenal FA Cup Betting Tips and Preview
For most fans, the FA Cup 3rd round is when the tournament finally gets underway, with teams from the top 2 tiers entering the competition. For the smaller sides though, the competition started months ago and now comes the chance to beat one of the big boys and write your name into English football history. One of the potential ‘giant killings’ of the weekend is at Bloomfield Road, where Blackpool take on Arsenal.
Blackpool Recent Form
Blackpool’s FA Cup Run So Far
Blackpool have reached the 3rd round of the FA Cup in 10 of the last 12 seasons, but have only made it into round 4 on 3 occasions. This season, they have reached the 3rd round with wins over Exeter City and non league Solihull Moors. In the first round, 3 first half goals looked like giving Blackpool a comfortable victory, but a late comeback gave Exeter hope. A 3-2 win granted them an away tie at Solihull Moors in the second round, which ended in 0-0. The replay was more exciting, with Solihull refusing to give up without a fight. The non league outfit recovered from 2-0 down to force the game to extra time at Bloomfield Road. The tie was eventually settled with Jay Spearing’s 105th minute penalty, sending the Tangerines through.
Arsenal Recent Form
Arsenal’s 2017/18 FA Cup Run
After successful FA Cup campaigns towards the end of Arsene Wenger’s tenure, last year’s hopes were ended at the earliest opportunity. A 3rd round draw at Nottingham Forest would always have been tricky, but with Forest struggling in the league, Arsenal were still heavy favourites. That had all changed at half time however, after 2 Eric Lichaj goals sent Forest in 2-1 up and completely dominating the game. 2 Forest penalties in the second half were enough to cancel out Danny Welbeck’s strike, sending Arsenal out of the cup.
Blackpool v Arsenal Head to Head
Blackpool Wins - 15
Draws - 24
Arsenal Wins - 44
Despite rarely being in the same league for the last 50 years, Blackpool and Arsenal have still faced each other a few times. Even this season, this will be the second encounter between the sides. In October, Arsenal won 2-1 in the League Cup after being reduced to 10 men in the second half. Prior to that, the last time the 2 met was when both sides were in the Premier League. Arsenal won both games that season, including a 3-1 at Bloomfield Road, thanks to goals from Robin Van Persie, Abou Diaby and Emmanuel Eboue.
