Bet UK's Birmingham City Away Day Guide
Birmingham City and Swansea City haven’t been in the same league for 10 years, last meeting in the league during the 2008/09 Championship season. Birmingham have remained in the Championship since their relegation in 2011, without really threatening to make a way back into the top flight. If anything, Birmingham have been closer to League 1 then the Premier League in recent years. Birmingham went through 4 managers, starting with Harry Redknapp and ending with ex Swansea manager Garry Monk. Monk steadied the ship towards the end of the year, winning just under half of his games in charge.
The two sides might not have met in the league in 10 years, but the 2 did play each other in pre season last year. The Swans ran out 2-0 winners at St Andrew’s that day, with goals from Tammy Abraham and Leroy Fer. It’s difficult to say how Birmingham will perform this year. If they can manage to keep a manager for longer than 6 months, then they might be able to put some form together. Swansea fans will be hoping to find Birmingham in another bad run of form as they make the trip to St Andrews. Planning on going to Birmingham City away? Then take a look at Bet UK’s away day guide for all the information you need.

How to get to St Andrews Stadium?
Driving to St Andrews Stadium from Swansea
St Andrews isn’t too far of a drive from Swansea City Centre, taking just under 3 hours. Head along the M4 until Junction 24, where you merge with the A449 towards The Midlands. Follow signs for The Midlands along the A40 and M50, eventually joining the M5 at the Strensham Interchange. Continue along the M5 until you reach Junction 3, where you should come off and follow signs for the A456. The A456 will take you onto the A4540 and St Andrews will be clearly signposted from there.
The away end actually has a dedicated car park that can be used, however this depends on how many Swansea coaches will also need spaces. If this car park is full, then there will be an open air car park just on the left of the ground that will only charge £5 for the full day. If you are in a hurry, you will have to park further away as the area around St Andrews is closed off an hour before and after the match. There are plenty of street parking spaces on the left hand side of the ring road, as well as some schools and local businesses offering their spaces for £5.
Trains from Swansea to St Andrews Stadium
The train journey from Swansea Central to Birmingham New Street takes between 3-4 hours with most journeys needing 1 change. Trains run about every 30 mins, making the trip fairly simple. Trains running up until 15:55 will get you to Birmingham with over half an hour to make your way to the ground. From Birmingham New Street station, you can either walk for 25 minutes to the ground, or get a taxi for about £10.
The final train back to Swansea Central that doesn’t require an overnight stay leaves a 22:12. This should give you enough time to walk from the stadium to the station after the match. It will be a long day for any Swansea football fans travelling by train, not arriving back in Swansea until 1:52 the next morning.
Hotels near St Andrews For Swansea City Fans
There are plenty of hotels surrounding St Andrews’ Stadium, most of them being reasonably priced. Royal George Hotel is the closest hotel to the ground, but if you would prefer a known brand, then an ibis hotel is not much further away. There are plenty of options surrounding the ground that are under £75 including: The Moseley Arms, Lanchester House and Rowton Hotel.
Pubs for Swansea Football Fans Near St Andrews Stadium
There are not many pubs near St Andrews in general, never mind pubs for away Swansea City fans. One pub that does allow away fans is the Cricketers Arms. With St Andrew’s on your left, walk up the hill towards the shopping area that includes Morrisons. Walk through Morrisons car park and the Cricketers Arms will be on your left. The pub does allow all fans, and with a very small capacity, you may be forced to sit outside. If you have enough time, it might be worth heading closer to the city centre for more selection of pubs to enjoy.
