New Aston Villa manager Dean Smith gets his first opportunity to see his new team in action as Villa host Swansea City at Villa Park. The ex-Brentford manager was appointed at the start of the international break, bringing in John Terry as his assistant. The boyhood Villa fan will be hoping to get off to a perfect start after 2 weeks training with his new squad. Swansea come into the game on the back of a disappointing 3-2 loss at home to Ipswich, but will be fired up ahead of the weekend.

Aston Villa Form
Last Time Out In The Championship
Aston Villa continued their poor form even after sacking Steve Bruce in their match against Millwall. Kevin McDonald took charge of Villa for the match and Tammy Abraham handed him the perfect start with a 7th minute goal. The lead didn’t last for long however, with Shane Ferguson grabbing a goal back for Millwall after 26 minutes. 3 minutes after the break, Villa were undone by another set piece, handing Tom Elliot a 1st league goal of the season. The game finished 2-1, but a dominant Millwall should have added to their tally in the second half. Dean Smith has a job on his hands to get this Villa side playing with belief again.
Swansea City Form
Last Time Out In The Championship
After 3 games unbeaten, Swansea handed Ipswich a first win of the season at the Liberty Stadium. 2 own goals and a goal for Gwion Edwards on his return to the Liberty gave Ipswich a 2-1 lead after just 30 minutes. Bersant Celina’s wonderful individual goal looked to have grabbed a point for Swansea, but a late Trevoh Chalobah header swung the match back in Ipswich’s favour. The Swans dominated the match, but failed to convert any of their chances. Oli McBurnie had a couple of opportunities to grab his first goal in a month, but couldn’t capitalise. After 3 0-0’s in 5 matches however, a 5 goal match might signify a change in Swansea’s approach in the Championship.
Aston Villa v Swansea City Head to Head
Swansea City have an incredible recent record against Villa, winning the last 5 games between the 2 sides, only losing once in the last 26 years. The last time the sides met, Federico Fernandez scored the winner in a 1-0 win for the Swans at home. Prior to that, a late Andre Ayew goal gave Swansea the win at Villa Park. The two teams are very different these days, with Villa now in their 3rd season in the Championship. But, if recent records are anything to go by, then Swansea could be leaving the midlands with 3 points.
Where to Watch and Where to Listen
The match will be streamed live from Villa Park on Swans TV, as well as live commentary for all subscribers.
