AJ’s next bout is against Oleksandr Usyk on September 25th 2021. Usyk is widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. However, the Ukrainian superstar was still fighting in the Cruiserweight category until two years ago. Usyk has fought two heavyweight boxers and failed to knock either out, with his last fight with Derek Chisora going the distance and his first bout with Chazz Washington being stopped. Can Usyk cause a major upset against AJ? We have him at odds of 9/4 to do exactly that.

Joshua’s only career defeat came against Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019. Ruiz was a major underdog going into the fight and was widely mocked due to his physical condition. However, it was Ruiz’s knockout power and unbelievable speed that gave him the victory against AJ. For their return fight, Ruiz attempted to slim down, and instead of trying to knockout Ruiz, Joshua simply outboxed him to claim an easy victory. In previous fights, only Wladimir Klitschko had given A.J anything to worry about. But the Brit put in what was arguably the greatest round of his career to defeat the legendary boxer in the 11th.

What betting tip does the stats provide?

If you’re looking into these stats for when the fight will likely end, it would suggest that this fight finishes between the 7th and the 12th round. AJ has ground out victories before, but against a significantly smaller opponent, he will look to wear the Ukrainian Usyk down before grabbing a TKO late in the fight.

AJ to win the fight in the 10th-12th rounds: 15/2

Oleksandr Usyk is the master of winning. He is almost always ahead on the scorecards; one exception in recent memory was against Tony Bellew. Usyk was losing on ⅔ cards and drawing on the other, so he upped his game and delivered several fierce blows to KO the Evertonian. However, after his performances against Chisora and Bellew, one must question whether the ‘wear-down tactics’ will work as effectively against AJ.

However, one thing is for certain, if Usyk wins, this is how:

Oleksandr Usyk to win by decision: 15/4

Our Prediction

We can’t see beyond an Anthony Joshua victory here. In Joshua’s previous bouts, there was always the thought that AJ could get caught by a big shot and laid out as his jaw hadn’t been tested previously. Andy Ruiz Jr was a great example of that. However, Oleksandr Uysk doesn’t have the same knockout power, and if he wants to win, he has to outbox Joshua and handle his power. However, Joshua has fought with more brains than brawn in recent fights and has looked comfortable in each fight. If it were purely down to ability, we’d back Usyk, but the Ukrainian has never had to deal with knockout power like Joshua possesses, and although this fight should last the distance, Usyk should lose by 4-5 points.

AJ to win by decision: 49/20
