Jupiler League

The Belgian Jupiler League is the top association football league in Belgium and is operated by the Belgian Football Association. The most successful club in the history of the league by far is Anderlecht with 29 titles, the next best side is Club Brugge with thirteen league titles to its name. Current champions Standard Liege have won a total of ten Belgian championships.

In the UEFA league rankings of European domestic leagues, the Belgian Jupiler League is ranked 14th. This ranking means that the league champion qualifies for the group stage of the Champions League, the runner up enters the Champions League at the third qualifying round. Third placed teams qualify for the last preliminary round of the Europa League, as does the winner of the Belgian Cup, unless they are one of the top three finishers in the league. In that case, the Europa League spot goes to the runner-up in the Belgian Cup.

This season is the first season of a new, controversial league format where there are sixteen teams instead of the previous eighteen and an innovative new play-off system to decide qualification for European competition.

At the end of the regular season, the teams finishing in the top six will battle out play-offs for the championship, in which they start with half of the points they reached during the regular season. The clubs finishing from 7th to 14th will play play-offs to decide which team can play against the number three of the championship play-offs for the last European place. The bottom two will be relgated to the second division.

Standard Liege are way off the pace in the Jupiler League currently, and are even out of the top 6 for the end of season championship play off. Anderlecht lead the way and are heavy favourites for the title.

Bookmakers in the UK offer odds on all Jupiler League games and some offer odds on the title.
